Vladimir dissolved the current government to place a new prime minister in power just a few weeks from the parliamentary elections. Now, if I understand their system, this is just a tad bit of a strange thing to do, yes?

Personally, I think Putin wants to consolidate his power and increase governmental strength before he has to leave due to term limits, but it sounds like he wants to return after, with more power and possibly full control of his country's government. Of course, I might be reading too much into it.

I doubt things will evolve along the lines of the USSR. More likely is a move to the current chinese model...authoritarian capitalism.

Just a note:

Most Christians are altruists, and some are morons, the rest of us look out for them... slowly nodding our head with a smile as one would patronize a child. The key is to not let them know we're patronizing and don't agree with their own made-up policies.

Unfortunately GWBush is not a Christian, is still a moron, and the rest of us are counting down to his forceful removal and standoff in the white house when the Secret Service has to shoehorn him out with teargass. He got elected on the pretence that he wasn't the oil-mongering moneygrubbing fuck he really is.
