Donations for Infrastructure
Hello everyone,
As I said in my platform I'll regularly have donations runs for the Infrastructure fees.
Here are the details about this:
The money will go to a business paypal account I have created with my gmail e-mail address: torguet@gmail.com
Rotku, as the current lead admin, has access to this account and can check how the money is spent and draw money from it in case I have a problem.
Here is a detail of the fees and when they are due:
- vault computer (holds the character files - .bic), paid quarterly (every 3 months) and costs $95.96 (that's $29.95 per month and a 6.8% for taxes and billing).
- website (this website which hosts this forum), paid yearly and costs $93.24 (that's $7.77 per month).
We will therefore have donations runs quarterly for about $95 dollars except the February one where the target will be $188.
All of this is completely optional of course, ALFA is free.
Give as much as you want/can using the following link:
Make a donation
I'll post in this thread the current donation balance every day during the donation runs and weekly for the rest of the time.
Our current goal is $95.96 for the august payment (already paid by me) of the vault computer.

Good on you Hialmar & Rots! Its about time we got this donation thing happening.. brilliant stuff. A good on those of you who've donated thus far.
If there is one thing I learned about fundraising over the years (I used to run national fundraising projects that turned over a few million a year) it is that people donate to outcomes..
If you could explain briefly but exactly what further funding might allow you to do Hialmar, I reckon you could easily double that again inside of a week.

The only solution to really upgrade forum and website would be to rent another dedicated server.
Unfortunately this would mean paying twice $95.96 every three months.
Even if the current solution isn't very fast and can bug at some times it is very good compared to the money (4 times less).
As for what more funding would allow there are several possibilities:
- the above solution (ie have two dedicated servers) = about $200 every 3 months
- paying some of the hosting fees of our servers which should be around $30 / month for each server
- going all the way to central hosting (ie having a big computer with both the vault and all the servers - for NWN2) but this requires incorporating.
Currently, I'm more inclined to go the second way (ie pay for some of our servers) or keep the money until we incorporate ALFA.

Very impressive. Thanks to all that contributed and kudos to Hialmar for getting this going.
Also, I have to say, using the extra money for hosting seems a better idea then upgrading the forums. Sure sometimes they're slow and annoying, but it works just fine most times.

I agree with server hosting in the short term..
Lets take the load off anyone who is paying for the rest of us to have a good time..
I'd be happy to donate to that on pay day.

Just a post to say that I've some problems with paypal at the moment.
Apparently, if you want to donate it is better if you cut your donations in small payments instead of one big sum.
For the big sums, paypal blocks the money in case the paying credit card was stolen or something like that (of course it won't happen in our case but it's standard business for them). Therefore we have to wait for as many as 30 days before getting the money.
Again I would like to say a huge thank you to our donor's.

ALFA Gold
Why don't we sell ALFA Gold on ebay for $9.99 for 100000K? Delivered in game? We could buy IBM Deep Blue eventually, real cheap, as it is being overtaken by new super computers... Then we could have real in game nuclear explosions..or hell ball spell at least.....
