What people think of ALFA
Moderator: ALFA Administrators
Burts and Mords are part of the alfa fauna. They are entitled their stupid trolling to lighten everyone's heart. They are also the clowns that members will look up to for comic relief during drama episodes and their posts serve as a place to take a breath in those 20 pages rage threads.
In anycase, the OAS is an alien thing to me, but i think it's a good mechanism nonetheless (though i certainly would never have had the patience nor humility to run through a testing period...i am far too good
).
To have them face the consequences of their acts (through death of their characters) is a good test of the app's mettle. As well, seeing their roleplaying reaction to their surrounding helps determine if they'll just farm or meta or try to be part of the world...whatever. Telling them we are hardcore roleplayers certainly isn't a lie either. So i believe Phoenyyx deals with it coherently.
And paazin, alfa is not serious, what fiend gave you that idea?

In my Pen-n-Paper game at home I named the two bickering flunkies of one of the main villains "Burt and Mord" (well, I named them Bertrand and Mordekai, but they call each other Burt and Mord).
ALFA1-NWN1: Sheyreiza Valakahsa

I had some really fun times on ALFA. Honestly, I can't remember any bad times playing. I can remember being bored (due to lack of DM presence) and logging off, but having a bad time playing ... never. I would bet that there are many like me, people that enjoyed themselves and are simply waiting for the right circumstances to come back.
Now, bad times in the forums, those I can remember, but that is my fault for having a thin skin. The same holds true to being a AR: it was my mistake to continue to do it when it was really frustrating me. I should have simply passed the torch sooner rather than indulging in some sort of martyr complex. Mea culpa.
So, this old timer says: if you build it and DM it, they will come. No worries.

People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Considering Waldorf and Statler are the best muppets ever created, i say it is a good thing there are no mods around to silence themDanubus wrote:Burt and Mord are like the old farts on the Muppets who sit in the balcony and heckle everyone down below.

Edit: Zomg a wombat sighting! Are the traps prepared?
*nods*, why I have not put any time here in what feels like ages. I think it gets to the point when you just don't want to bash your head into the brick wall anymore. The biggest complaint I ever had with ALFA is many good players get punished for the few bad.
as for:
Permadeath and "hard core rp": this is the reason I thought this place would be so fun and I had many enjoyable times here, but random unrealistic Deaths leave a bad taste.....Almost as bad as advancement being frowned upon and restricted in an effort to try to make everyone's PC "equal"...Ick.
as for:
Favoritism: can't stop it, shouldn't try, let people carve out their own fun how they see fit.
People want to have fun. Everyones version of fun will be different. To attract enough people to make this project successful there will (Or should have been) a lot more compromise and willingness to see other points of view and perspectives for the benefit of the community instead of their own personal narrowed visions.

Fluff:
P.S. I would like to thank Burt and Mord, and all the other interesting ALFAns, for "lending" me their personalities for the NPCs in my pen-n-paper game. I was going over my notes last night and thinking about the Burt/Mord thing and I realized just how many of my NPCs are based upon ALFAns (well, on my perception of ALFAns). So, thanks folks!
I don't do this often, but damn, I have to here: fluff, a big +1 to that!KM, you'll never be able to run a little intra-factional DMing circle jerk like you wanted to. Get over it. You can play in the faction, or DM in the faction, not both. That's such basic 'conflict of interest' stuff it should be immediately obvious.
