Just an EM frequency which water molecules tend to have a particular affinity for. This is when concentrated microwaves become dangerous. Its what makes microwave ovens work.

Not all photons are created equal.

Right, but it's not going to vaporize half a city in the minute it's off track. Plus the beam is very low powered. I wish I still had the article, but it was pretty clear it's not dangerous.

And the spill was just a liter of heavy water? Lulz. That shit forms naturally, it's in the water everywhere, and such a small amount isn't toxic at all. OMIGOD ATOMZ OVERREACTION TIME!!1

Patrick Moore, one of the founders of Greenpeace about persuing nuclear energy:

He says it better than i.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

If they don't miss and melt down half a city :P

Atoms are evil, weirdo. You'd know that if you weren't too busy poisoning our air and polluting our oceans you corporate apologist.

Why not just build them in that vast cavernous space between Dubya's ears? We're not doing anything productive with it at the moment, anyway :?

Putting them in areas no one would miss is the trick. The two that my town runs on are in Cincinnati.

I'd say Jersey...but who knows what sort of mutants a nuclear spill would cause when combined with all the other sludge.

I lived within 15 miles of a nuke plant for four years. I didn't lose any sleep in all that time, and felt alot better about that then some nasty belching coal plant.

As for my cancer, my mother was quick to blame the plant, but my doctor told her it could just has easily been 30 years of flourecent lights.

My great embarassment about my good ol' hometown of Detroit is the auto industry. They are fighting tooth and nail right now the proposed fuel economy standards. Short sighted asshats.

For those interested in Solar energy, in 2005 the largest grant ever was given by the government to try and double the efficiency of panels. Now, we would still have to get production capability worked out (faster and cheaper), but we're getting there!

Yay fed science grants!

Yea. Try getting a research grant from NIH. Its a damn rat race. This administration has hurt the scientific community, funding wise for Biological research. They only want us when there's a nasty new virus (like SARs) or when our guys are going into a war zone and need quick and cheap vaccinations.

I've worked up in that eastern city beltway and all i have to say is it sucks. Public restrooms are rare, people are rude and the food is bland. Down in the south the restrooms are everywhere, people still wave at you when you meet them on the highway in vehichles, and the food is nice and spicey.
