The only way I see code writer's becoming obsolete is when mankind creates an A.I. powerful enough to write efficient code according to usually vague user specifications and also able to constantly improve upon itself.

[EDIT] But at that point I think a lot of human functions will largely become obsolete.

You pay peanuts and you get monkeys.

Which is lucky. If you paid peanuts for more peanuts, all you would have to do the work would be peanuts (which you already had to start with), and peanuts are even worse workers than monkeys. Calorific, but very low-output.
Wouldn't you get elephants if you paid peanuts? I would have thought monkeys would work for bananas.

Question is, is there such a big difference? More importantly, would the peanuts really be worth peanuts if you tried to feed ellafants!?!?!

The difference would be huge! Monkeys have nimble little fingers so they can actually press the buttons and generate a Shakespeare novel every thousand years! Elephants could only press down on the keyboard and hit all the keys at once, and they'd break a keyboard every time they try! Unless they use their trunk of course, but have you ever tried typing with your nose? It's a rather slow process.

The worst case scenario would be if you get both elephants and monkeys. Imagine the monkeys teaching the elephants how to fling their poo...
