Just finished the series here. The last few episodes were quite good, but even after it picked up after the 6th or so episode I didn't think it ever really reached its potential. I think it would have been more interesting if they became a more militarialistic town, defending their resources from masses trying to take it by force (which is kind of what happened, but not really to an interesting degree right until the end of the series)... Or maybe something like the planned and dumped Beyond Jericho, having each episode a completely different story of a survivour(s), but all telling complimentary stories of the post nuke world...

I see it got cancelled after the first season and I'm not overly surprised. It was too slow, a tad repetitive and the first half dozen episodes probably turned a lot of people off. And then some nut company organised a protest... and got tens of thousands of dollars of sales out of it! Apparently there will be another 7 episodes because of the protest campaign...

Actually, the nut company just played along--the fans started shipping nuts from them, and the company started offering special Jericho nuts at wholesale discount, and it spiraled out of control and CBS' headquarters got something like 25 tons of peanuts. Seven episodes is the initial order, and if the ratings improve it'll be back for realz. wewt

Also, the trading town in Black Jack was, in fact, based on The Hub from Fallout. I always suspected.

Judging from the worldwide viewing audiences of Jericho, it doesn't stand much of a chance going past the 7 episodes. It got canned in Australia before it even finished.

I watched it and didn't think it was any good until episode 11, then it became less about teenage/family drama and more about uh, post apocalypsism.

No one cares about the rest of the world, though. Shows live or die on their Neilsen ratings, which means the US. Though supposedly that's going to start changing, since the studios noticed that with TiVo and the interwebs and whatnot, Neilsen ratings mean precisely jack shit.

Just saying that it was universally unpopular, which really is saying something. The news around the series' cancellation and subsequent reinstantiation may help improve ratings to start with, but unless it keeps up the pace for the whole 7 episodes, ratings are going to go down again. And having a very loyal, but relatively small crowd of followers isn't going to be a major selling point to advertisers.

But that's not true. The show had pretty good ratings for the timeslot (and when they factored in the website and TiVo, they were even better), so it was a big surprise when it was cancelled. Which doesn't instill me with a whole lot of confidence that CBS has any idea what it's doing, but it has a chance.

The show sucked at first and drove away a lot of people, if they remarket it as they appear to be doing, it may grab a new audience. They're replaying it here soon and completely skipping all the early family drama episodes, and going right to the post-nuclear civil war.
