Well, for what it´s worth I´d prefer the newbs were directed to read the server forums anyway before they jump into the game and read them good.

I´m not bothered by the chat, but I don´t really use it except private talk with some people.

Well, what ever does happen, the Admissions team will keep there non-#alfa channal (if it's #admissions, #alandfaraway, #alfa-help - what ever) and will continue to direct new members there with questions. More than happy to help man an offical channal with people if that's what's wanted! Good on you Hialmar for making the call! Hope you don't get too much hate mail ;)

Hialmar, unfortunately the poll didn't work because very few understood the intent. As far as i'm concerned, you didn't need this poll.

It's unfortunate that much confusion arose on this issue, but even more unfortunate that so many people from chat opted to escalate their misbehaviors and spill such into the forums. I like a lot of those guys/gals, but seriously, any actions committed that hurt this project, i am not okay with... and i'm not okay with all this asshattery being escalated, this blatant resistance to moderator authority, and this funneling of hostilities into the forums.

My initial position was for the #alfa chat to be given mild moderation, but Hialmar posed an alternative that would have left #alfa chat alone. I opted for this, but then all this juvenile behavior ensued, and i looked deeper into the issue. What i found is that the chat room, as it stands, is not a positive example of this community, and that some regulars there, who do not play ingame or participate in the development of this project, seem to spend an inordinate amount of time fomenting illwill for this project. This absolutely needs to stop. The ALFA project stands of paramount importance in this community. If people, members or not, create problems for the continuation of this project, then we should seriously reconsider the value of their participation.

The childish and selfish behavior I've seen pour into the Forums over this subject has done nothing but underscore why moderation was needed in the first place. I'd like to remind people that we saw the same sort of posts made against the effort to clean up the forums yet they have been improved greatly.

Moderators have a thankless job and need the full support of the Admin to function. The attacks on the Mods these past few days are just pathetic.

Yep, off topic has been doing just fine without any moderation of any sort.

Certainly does prove a point, doesn't it.

Treat all women as ladies with respect and honor at all time. If someone violates these rules you kindly ask them to stop. 99% of the time men stop.
The other 10% stop after you have a strong "talk" with them.
Just noticed your reply! Why just women? Why not treat everyone with the same high respect?

Too bad your wrong there Swift ;)

Moderators wouldn't hesitate to punish anyone in Off-Topic who crossed the line, especially if it was a personal attack. The bar is lower in Off-Topic compared to the other Forums but even then you don't see the same level of stuff that flows through IRC. If Off-Topic was nuked I wouldn't argue to keep it because it's a bit of a sideshow. Still, in IRC because words don't hang around for weeks or months for all to see the amount of self-editing is almost nil. That's the problem.

To be honest, if IRC was moderated at a minimal (watchdog) level similar to Off-Topic I think most people would be satisfied. If IRC was taken down just one notch I think the majority of the problems would go away.

There is no problem. People just need to learn to not take things personally, it's the internet.

/ignore and /clear should be used liberally by those that are more easily offended by general screwing around.

Swift, stop trolling. You haven't had anything to do with ALFA until you got wind of drama on the forums.

Careful Swift, or one of our new super-moderators will swing their Admin-enhanced e-penis at you. I know Whitey's dieing to have another go at the turkey-slapping... I hear he's aiming to lock a thread in every forum in ALFA.

I still follow the forums and sit in chat to keep abreast of what is happening in ALFA, partially so i cannot be accused in the manner you have just done, and partially because i actually want to keep abreast of things.

I might shoot my mouth off from time to time, but at least i try and make sure my facts are right before mouthing off with baseless accusations. As one of the lead moderators, i would hope you will do the same in the future.

My apologies swift.

However you are trolling, and you're accusations are normally baseless and ill conceived.
