Forgotten Realms Movie

Post by Inaubryn »

This is a screenplay for a Forgotten Realms Movie. It is going into the revision stage and I thought I would give ALFA members a chance to aid in the revisions. A few have already gotten a chance to read a version of this script. So, what I would like to see are comments, suggestions, criticisms on everything. If you do or don't like a character or believe a character is overwritten or underwritten, feel free to say so. If you believe the story would be better off with a different protagonist, or antagonist whatever. If you like things how they are, so be it. If you think you can predict the ending/outcome of the movie, say so, but do that in a PM. ;)

I'm going to post four or five pages per day and allow them to be fully digested and commented on. Now, remember this movie is written for FR fans, DnD fans, fantasy fans and a general audience who may or may not be familiar with any or all of the above. Also, note that the screenplay will not be in proper screenplay format. If there are any questions on devices used for screenwriting, e.g., locations, shots, action/narrative, character names, capitilization, etc., feel free to ask. Also, note that the narrative prose for screenplays is not as descriptive as the prose used in novels. This is because of page count (90-120 vs. 300-500) and time constraints (2-3 hour movie vs. lengthy novel). Oh, and on average, one page of a screenplay is the equivalent of 1 minute screen time. Not always true but mostly.

So, without further ado. I submit the first 5 pages or first 5 minutes.

"You people have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation! So, from now on, when Private Pyle fucks up... I will not punish him. I will punish all of you! And the way I see it, ladies... you owe me for one jelly donut! Now, get on your faces!"

I like the setup and plot so far, and how the main characters are entered into with some decent fluidity and not forced out on the viewer (or reader as it is presently); I also like the descriptions of how the scenes pan out and transition.

This may of course occur in the 2nd or 3rd acts, but I think a female protagonist to aid the Meric (either as friend, fellow squire / knight, lover, or a combination of the three) would add to the story.

I also have my concerns that the adventure movie genre might be oversaturated lately; consider LotR, Narnia, Star Wars 1-3, and (distantly) Dungeons and Dragons. Assuming of course you have the will to actually turn the script into a movie, plus funds, contacts, etc.

I enjoy reading it though, and look forward to the next post.
