Is it possible to hide lvl's for players, so that no metainformation is involved in CVC? I have noticed, that there are a few players, who are very friendly when meeting a high lvl PC, even if they don't know the person at all and the opposite happens, if they meet a low lvl PC - aha loot! I find this extremely annoying. It would be best in my opinion, if knowledge of lvl's and class was hidden for all except the dm's, so that spontanous CVC action would be a lot more risky. Is this a good idea? I don't see why this hasn't been changed yet?
Problem One: many people would apply to be DM's even if just to have access to PC info.....
Problem two: In most cases you would be able to tell in RL how "seasoned" another adventurer is. The biggest problem IMO with alfa is the lack of information...I find this as a player and also as a DM...There would simply be so much more information available to PC's then ALFA permits...Many here think that everything must be found out while Logged into the Game....I for one think that is BS and really hurts the Players who cant spend countless hours online...
If DM's were not able to play PC's then I would say good Idea however and deal with two to the best of your ability through RP.
We'll likely get moved to game mechanics or something but...
You have to realize that lower level pcs tend to be new faces to most people and are usually treated with caution by more established folks.
That being said, if I, as a dm, determined that a pc is using meta to direct their Cvc (little c is for the lower level pc), they'd be looking at some sort of severe justice.
As for the game mechanics question, has there been confirmation that the same sort of arrangement will be in place to view other players' stats on log-in?
I wouldn't worry about people DMing just to get a look at levels for CvC. It is *far* easier to look at HPs while partied, spells cast, BAB, ect. For those that want to Cvc, they will find a way. For the vast majority of us, that rough gauge of your mate's abilities serves to cover too many shortcomings of the engine.
also, in a related issue, the hiding of class would be beneficial too
seems to me talking with Derrin Hyndsver may be a little different than talking with Derrin Hyndsver - Rogue 8/Assassin 5
the most powerful mage (epic level) in the lands we have proposed to build for nwn2 walks around in beggar's clothes so it isn't always looks that give anything away
Garrigan DeLorre - Paladin 6 - died honorably in battle
X'Anne - Witch (Druid/Ranger mix) 4 - captured and imprisoned awaiting trial (retired)
Talon Xavaliir - Cleric 11 - living

Good Points...I'm sold ...I would love this....as always had to play devils advocate though

I fully support the idea of hiding Class and Level from the Player screen. Why not make it harder for players to meta? Countless times I've seen players act one way towards a low level toon and VERY different around a player they just met simply because they KNOW on login that this person can kick their ass. If it can be done, there is no downside to hiding this information.

It can be done (fairly effectively) by using scripting that doesn't allow for parties and using remote login servers with a population limit of 1. From there a portal transports the player to the correct start location.
With these features the only time people would see AB and saves of other PCs is if they are already in CvC with each other.
I would agree with this. As a noob, when I started, I didn't even know that you could check the players online at the time, so would quickly log in and start playing.
At times i would party with someone and after playing for a few hours say to myself "what class is this guy?" because that person played their character so uniquely, or had a multiclass combo that I couldn't figure out.
The other argument I can think of is also in favour of hiding this. What if I play my character with other pcs as a goody two shoes fighter, but am also playing a multiclass fighter/rogue or fighter/assassin and am acting as a spy or trying to get close enough to assassinate an important NPC that the PCs know. They don't see my classes, they fall for the ruse, they log on and see assassin and immediately say "wait a second, on page 124 it says assassins must be evil..this guy isn't good". Whether you conciously meta or not, I think it can affect you.
If we could think of any semi-easy way to do it, we would have already. In any case, I'm not sure hiding attack rolls and saving throws from everyone is terribly IC in the first place.

Exactly....The rolls would just represent what you would pick up on in if it was reality....
a) Fancy robes, full plate or well made armour, beatiful swords, magical staves, intricate bows and well made riding boots would be expensive and probably only available at mid-higher levels. (excepting sons/daughters of lords and ladies or wealthy merchant...which means b) becomes important)
b) Change your description to say 'looks like a grizzled warrior' or ' 'handles his bow as if an extension of his arm' or 'scarred from many battles' as he becomes more experieinced. (unless you are a clever foppish sicophant who is actually the SCARLET PIMPINEL!)
c) Reputations then preceed you, not meta info.
Of course a) is not possible in ALFA1 as everyone has awsome stuff early so we will have to wait till the builders and DM are clever in what they hand out in ALFA2.
And b) is not possible without a remake...but maybe in NWN2
And c)...wel C works a bit now...but people see the levels first.
So i vote HIDE!!! in ALFA2
