Running this poll doesn't prove much of a point, for two reasons.
1. It's horribly slanted: "Mature & Friendly" "Immature & Unfriendly" What? You can only be friendly if your mature? And if you are immature you are unfriendly? Grouping Immature and Unfriendly is not the best, because even I agree we can be immature at times. Mostly because being immature can be fun. I mean hell, I remember having fun as a kid, don't you?
2. None of your options describe how I feel about the forums.
Oh and 3. This poll is not going to prove a thing.
The ALFA forums are the ALFA forums, not much other way for me to describe them. For all the bad, you got plenty of good, and you don't really find people screaming at newbies unless they went off and deserved it.
The forums and chat are fine. Just like they were when Bear tried his cleanup and failed.
Besides, you guys keep up the kind of modding you have been doing lately, you'll burn out faster then twiggy did from the response you get from the community.

And if this "community" keeps burning out good people, then it gets exactly what it deserves and can degrade into whatever form of spam, insult and garbage the mob decides it should be.
The main purpose of this poll is for me to get a general feel for where at least some of ALFA stands regarding the forums. If no one cares or everyone thinks things are fine the way they are based on this poll and some other observations I am making, I will be withdrawing myself from any sort of involvement other than playing and DMing on SP.

These good people only get burned out because they get all overzealous and become not so good people, and not so good mods, and people don't like them anymore, or at least not when they are modding.FanaticusIncendi wrote:Vendrin wrote:Besides, you guys keep up the kind of modding you have been doing lately, you'll burn out faster then twiggy did from the response you get from the community.

You can't really get an acurate feel from a slanted poll. The main purpose of this poll is for me to get a general feel for where at least some of ALFA stands regarding the forums.
You don't need to. You just don't need to edit off topic posts, lock threads that aren't bonfires and spitting virtrol. The best mods are the ones who very rarely have to use there powers. At least for discplinary means. Abuse of them is all well and good.If no one cares or everyone thinks things are fine the way they are based on this poll and some other observations I am making, I will be withdrawing myself from any sort of involvement other than playing and DMing on SP.

All four, at different times. During some elections (although they have cleaned up a LOT) - particularly the mother/indio one - I would vote Hostile. Normally, I would say Neutral. Sometimes they are friendly and helpful, sometimes unfriendly. Immature, yes, often, but not unfriendly.

I don't know. I'm not the IA so I can't say why it was felt necessary. I certainly don't feel as such. Nor do quite a few others.FanaticusIncendi wrote:In a healthy community I would agree with you. I'm glad the mods were selected for their fair and neutral opinions on the community, rather than to carry out an agenda.FanaticusIncendi wrote:In a healthy community I would agree with you.
Good question. I can't fathom the reason, and it's not a decision I would've made.FanaticusIncendi wrote:Ask yourself why it was felt neccessary that five new moderators be added.

I think something's wrong when you have to warn folks about the forums.
These forums are the face of the community. One we should be proud to present.
The recent modding should promote self-modding, not bitterness.
As to the poll....the forums are alot of things. Depends on the topic. I suppose a maturely presented religious topic from myself resulting in me being called a "f**king twat" is ok. Now that doesn't hurt me any but is that the type of discussion we want outsiders to see?

As i said in another thread, when you have people like Rotku, who are 150% behind our moderators, complaining about how the moderating is being carried out, and calling for a suspension of it until the guidelines are pubplicly posted, doesn't it make you think that the bitterness being displayed just might be for well founded reasons?
I was surprised when i saw Rotku posting against how the recent moderating blitz has been done, because i knew he was a strong supporter of moderating the forums.

No, that is why Off-Topic isn't visible to non members.J.Madison wrote:As to the poll....the forums are alot of things. Depends on the topic. How do I vote for "Argumentative but polite?"
I don't feel the need for the forums to be all fluffy kittens and cute puppies, and everyone agreeing all the time.
But I would like to see less attacks on teh person and more response to the issue.
And right now, I'd like to see fewer perfectly good threads being locked because somebody called somebody else a geek.

This should have been in the *how do I want them to be* poll
