Player Density is dumb.

The mission of ALFA is to recreate the FRCS.

Player Density should not be dealt with by effectively limiting our own intent.

Player Density is not the real issue. Lets call a spade a spade, the problem is that we have servers that go empty for months at a time.

Why do we have empty servers? because no one is playing on it...why do we care if a server is empty atm?

Player density is easily solved by making it easy to find other players and DMs. Starting with the application process we should make it very clear where to go to OOC find a friendly group to play with, location and server have nothing to do with density. change the CoE forum name and include the address to it in the OAS "intoduction board" so that casual browsers can find the "match-making" thread on our forums and then they will not have the problem of finding other players.

reducing the server number and limiting our mission statement only "forces" players to be "penned in" to a limited playing area because we can't solve the "matchmaking" problems and cannot make DM coverage universal.

empty= no players=no player density=empty....seeing we are calling a spade a spade. And Dms generally go to where there are players to DM....so it's a sef perpetuating circle.

Why not have several of these 'friendly' groups on each server rather then only one (or none!) on each server. That way there is not only interaction within a singular group...but also between groups = more RP opportunity= more fun.

hahaha 15 servers is hardly 'penned in' Nalo!
God on the exisint servers you could have a group at one end of a server and another at the other end and they would hardly ever meet let alone the (probable) larger server size allowed in NWN2. |Especially when you consider you could have 30 active players on a server every day and becasue of timezones only have about 10 on at a time....again spread into groups.

PS - the mission statement is wrong (in my opinion only so dont start an argument as we can agree to disagree) building ALL of faerun is a pipe dream in NWN2. Maybe if there wern't about 6-7 other Faerun based PWs that will share the community player AND DM base we could get about half way (ie what we are now)...but there are, so lets not be silly about it.

If you build the entirity of faerun by only building interest features...then you sacrifice the joy that is ALFA being able to roam about aimlessly and find beautiful areas to rest and take screenshots in etc.

Anyways, think we're getting off toipic.

Well...I voted, but the thing is, when I first started playing I kinda had a built-in DM as most of you know, so it's not exactly an accurate vote. At that time, if I were to hop on when he wasn't around I mostly got bored and hopped off again. Basically if I have free time to play the game, I want to play with someone. I'm not about to sit around for three hours waiting for something to happen when I could be, oh...floating on my back in the ocean, in paradise...or playing with my cats...or, anything! It's not even crucial that a DM be around for that, i'll RP all day with one other person and have a great time.
As for players.. part of the problem for me is the time zone thing, seems most players are EST and that's like, 6 hours ahead of me.

I like all the servers, I like that the world is so big. However I often think the game experience might be enriched for all if there were fewer servers. I do have a suggestion and I don't know if it's even possible, not knowing anything about the tech stuff...why not combine servers? What I mean is..what if you took maybe 3 servers who are currently each their own entity, and made them into one server? That way you would have, say, WD, DF & LW all under one. Then if you also made travel time easier (come on let's use our imagination on that one! walking my pc for an hour or more is a waste of my RL time!) if a PC had a good IC reason for heading out from WD to DF to join in on a campaign, well at least everyone is already on the same server together.

*shrugs*
anyway, those are my thoughts, such as they are

Chose the first one, though technically for my first 6 months there wasn't a game.

Thanks to everyone who voted so far. I will try to pull these numbers together and make some pretty charts out of it within the next few days. I think they lead to some interesting expected and unexpected conclusions. :)

*grumbles* Not so much time to play with stats lately. In any case, I unstickied this and posted the next poll as promised.
