Damn it's cold here...

Post by Longhorn »

Grettings,

I've been playing on OAS for a couple of weeks (off and on) now and wanted to step up and formally say hello to everyone. I've been playing P&P RP games now for about 25 years but this is my first sojourn into on-line RP. As another new player posted a few days back, I did spend time playing Gamma World, Traveller, Star Frontiers and GURPS with most of my experience in D&D. I must say that I find the on-line experience very eye-opening and fresh in a certain way. While I feel technically literate for someone close to 40 (especially since I work for a major software company  ) I must admit that I find myself challenged by the skills necessary to carry on a chat conversation, use appropriate emotes, keep up with the other conversations going on while trying to ensure that goblin archer doesn't skewer me with an arrow while I'm trying to grab some berries. Oh yeah, and trying to remember to close the door and not run. :)

I'm 'currently' playing a human paladin of Tyr named Aeron Damphier who hails from Cormyr. He is certainly not use to the cold weather and you may run into him either at the mission doing errands and chores for Tusk, speaking to whoever will listen to him at Dirks about the need for law in this seemingly lawless territory or watching for newcomers near the frontgates who are looking to go out exploring on their own and need the protection or escort of a servant of Tyr.

I haven't yet submitted my application since I really want to gain some more experience on OAS so that I can be better prepared if/when I am deemed ready to play on the Live servers.

Hope to see you all on OAS.

Texas, mm? That's close enough to my timezone.

Drop by Saturday and we'll put that INT score to the test.

*cough cough* And by "Saturday" I mean "Next Saturday" as this Saturday I'm attending a concert that I totally didn't forget about. :P

As someone whose gaming history apparently closely mirrors your own, let me say welcome to ALFA and good luck with the application. Be warned that I and many others have become addicted to this place. Start setting a little aside every month to pay for therapy that is certain to ensue.

If you have any questions, feel free to fire me a PM and I will try to answer them as well as I can.

Hope to see you in game at some point. :)
Talk less. Listen more.

Ha! Don't worry, it takes a little while to adjust but once you do, it'll feel like second nature to you. To be proficient w/o the requisite "on the job" training, you either have to be very young, in which case you're already quite accustomed to "talking" to your puter, or you have to have the female gene, in which case, you can keep up with conversation threads going on in both talk AND party chat and that goblin is toast. Women can deal with sensory overload just fine.

Welcome to ALFA. :)

I will reiterate what people have said and welcome you to ALFA -- I have very little doubt that you will fit right in here like the rest of us.

You will find that the online experience allows for much greater immersion then other mediums as the only out of character experience you will be be witnessing is your own... off everyone else all you get is the IC side of things.

As a total aside ForestWolf (sp) did a rebuild of NWN for Traveller d20 based on the Firefly Sci-Fi series, called Nightfire Campaign system. You may want to check it out on the NWVault. Sessions are occasionally run by various DM's at NeverwinterConnections. I got to play in a Nightfire campaign over there and it was just amazing, really brought back all the old Gamma World, Star Frontiers and Traveller sessions of old.

Oh, and welcome to ALFA. Don't delay applying, with that much gaming experience you are certainly tall enough to go on this ride. :D
