Greetings

Post by ç i p h é r »

Hello everyone (anyone?).

Just posting a note here to introduce myself (I didn't notice a welcome/introduction thread anywhere so this spot looked better than most)...and to say, SWEET BABY JESUS! Do you guys realize how many threads and topics exist here? You probably do...but suffice it to say, it's a shocking amount of material, and quite overwhelming for a first timer to sift through. (not a bad thing mind you, but it can make your eyes bleed or your head twist all the way around if you try to read it all in one sitting) :)

I'm a long time PnP D&D player, dating back to 2nd edition. As such, my interests with NWN lie primarily in creating and experiencing PnP style adventuring. I'm obviously a fan of the Forgotten Realms. I like the depth and richness of it as well as the ubiquity of FR material (source, supplementals, novels, etc). There's lots to draw from. I'm especially fond of Waterdeep having used it as the setting for my own table top campaign and was, until very recently, helping build it to scale with others.

I've heard about the ALFA project on and off for some time now, and I remember having a brief look at the website over a year ago, but this is the first time I've actually spent the time to take a closer look and read through these forums. I'm glad for it too as this seems to be a project who's goals I admire and a community that contains plenty of like minded individuals. I also see that this community is no different than any other. Lots of drama, disagreements, walkouts, panic, anger, purple dragons, humpty dumpty, all the kings horsemen and the whole 9 yards .... I guess that just comes with the turf.

I'd certainly like to offer a hand here if it's welcomed or needed. I noticed a number of postings in the NWN2 areas seeking assistance so with any luck, my timing is good for a change. Although I don't know what formalities and fiery hoops I should be jumping through, I'm hopeful someone will point me in the proper direction. I have plenty of building and scripting experience (~2 years worth), although my preference is scripting (former assembly, C, Java, PHP programmer with lots of web and database experience). I've owned and played NWN from the day of it's release so I've a very good grasp of the game, the toolset, the scripting engine, and the game mechanics as well (helps knowing the ruleset). And I'm looking forward to NWN2.

Visualizing the vastness of the FR landscape would be a fulfillment of many a wistful dream so hopefully, you can use one more hand on deck.

Ciao!

Glad to have you aboard! I don't read the boards, was there anything interesting  ?

There is lots of real estate to explore, and lots of DM's with ongoing campaigns and plots. Enjoy your stay and be sure to check out the DM times if you want to get with other PC's!

Holy crap he's seen our ugly side and he still is around? Heh if you are looking for possibly helping out a team come NWN 2 I know the NU will be needing some help in terms of scripting and whatnot. At any rate welcome. :D

Welcome aboard!

have you submitted a written application?

*points in a direction* first step is to get accepted...

I am one of the DMs of ALFAs Waterdeep, one of our oldest mods, she is a classic going through a bit of a face lift right now.

PM me if you want to start a PnP style game I hear Killthorne wants a group over on DaggerDale

I've seen worse. And the boob tube is full of enough of this sort of thing to make you immune to it (reality TV, daytime soaps, nightime soaps, and my very favorite...LIFE TIME!). In the U.S. anyway. :P

Gracias, but forgive my ignorance with ALFA acronyms. NU? Let's see, according to my cheat sheet....that would be North Underdark, yes?

Nope. The one on the website? Is that for players, builders, everyone? It seemed like it was focused on evaluating people looking to play a character on ALFA. I'm not looking for a world to play in, but rather to focus on building. Maybe you don't separate the two...so if it's a requirement for simply being here, then please let me know.

Nice to meet you. A face lift you say? Need any help?

Don't mind Vendrin he is a bit of an optomist. Takes about 4-5 PCs to get the feel for living.

Make a bunch of, off the top of your head PCs, to start with. People who spend a whole evening designing a really nice character with a huge bio are often left with manic depression 15 seconds after logging on the first time with a new PC.

I will never forgive that dear in Bereghost... or that rat in skullport.. or that trap in skullport...

Try the OAS it's way better than a written app IMO. you know you will be ready for ALFA live when you get in, if you get in through the OAS. A nice DM called Overfilled Cup does RP101's aswell. I'm sure you can RP with all that experience but he teaches you a few nifty tips about refined ALFAn RP.

Hmm well if you are just looking to build then you still would need to pass some sort of DM acceptance process (aka application.) As you probably know the world wide web is full of l33t @ss3s who love nothing more than to ruin other people's fun/work/etc. These applications are to protect against this, but to be honest if someone like you just answers all the questions naturally you'll be fine.

Oh and sorry about the lingo NU does translate to North Underdark, noted home of the drow, duergar, svirfnebli, illithids, beholders, minotaur nations, and your other evil oriented creatures.

If you are interested I'll talk to you more via Private Messages.

Thanks for the info...and advice. Oh, and I'm actually a fan of hard core death. It makes living more precious and limits griefing too. In fact, I'd like to see aging as well. Not sure if you have that here but it would provide a natural path for character development and recycling. :)

Hey if you wanted to develope a script for aging I'm sure many people here would support it. Heck we do have a known languages script so that should tell you something.
