Just wondering if I can finnalge a small change for better data retreival and member satisfaction. This could lead to a large departmental perpective shift amoungst our members.

Why not options for hours of ?:
 toolset only
 DMing only
 DMing Cross Server
 Toolset/DMing
 Admin fuction
 PCing Cross Server
 PCing/toolsetting

................etc

Do we need a Human Resources Admin Department?

I think what we're trying to nail down here is now much time people spend on /live/ servers playing a /live/ PC, in order to get a frame of reference by which to compare the ALFA XP/hour standards to people's average playtimes per week, in order to consider the XP cap with good perspective.

Less than 10hrs/week. Two 4-5 hours sessions, per week - one DM'ed, the other not.

Wow. I can't do that. I mean, even with the summer vacation and kids napping, about 5 hours a day is all I can do. All I WANT to do. I figure I was playing about 35 hours or so there for a couple of weeks.

I voted 10 to 20 though, because the school year is about to begin and my play times will go to hell. Couple of hours a couple of nights a week and some time on the Weekends.

Between 15-20 for me.

I'd just like to see DMing vs. Playing vs. Toolsetting.

2 people here either need to get as life, or get better quick... 60+ hours is nuts

less than 10 a week now (closer to 2 hours a week), but I've had the odd 60+ hour week before, and used to average 20 easy.

If in fact there are a bunch of players playing 30+ hours a week that just don't come to the message boards and won't be counted in this poll, using it as a basis for setting an XP cap is pretty silly.

It's essentially the people who don't play determining the rules for the people who do... which makes very little sense. I'm playing two hours a week, so a 200xp per week cap would work okay for me. Bet you 10-20 hour folks would get pretty miffed if that went in though. :)
Current PC: I'm not tellin'. They die when I put their names here.

This Poll is an excellent example of ALFA's tail wagging the dog. Honestly, using guesswork to create rules and limits is no substitute for knowing the facts. This poll was started because someone guessed that half of ALFAs players were in-game at least 40 hours a week while another guessed that it was simply wishful thinking. So far, the poll has shown that almost half of ALFA actually plays less than 10 hours a week while the clear majority play less than 20. That's dramatically different than the guess that was being used to argue for higher XP limits.

Before you can create rules or limits you need to understand your playing membership. Fundamental details like:

1. How many actually play?
2. How long do they play?
3. How fast are they levelling?
4. What is a the average level?
5. What's the breakdown on Classes being played?
6. New Characters are being started where... and why?

That's just off the top of my head and I'm sure others can add more but don't you need to have these answers before you can make informed decisions? Now, some have taken my questions personally and I 'm sorry for that as it wasn't my intention at all. I make work decisions based on meat and potato marketing data and see that knowing these simple things could settle a whole string of arguments and dead horses for ALFA. And that's why I've been asking about the logs.

Do we have hard answers for any of these basic questions?
