Year 1384, Day 21 – The Underdark

There are certain absolutes in our lives that we take for granted at times. In my life that was that females were in charge and deserved to be so. That Lolth guides them and shows them the correct course of action in all situations. That they were the chosen of Lolth and as carriers of that word their actions were above reproach. It is with this in mind that I have begun to wonder why I have angered Lolth and what I could have done to do so. Due to teachings of her priestesses we know she has a chaotic nature and most other males might write this off to that and move on. As one might understand from this journal, I am not so sure anymore.

We awoke that cycle and broke camp to begin again our trek upwards to find Mantol Derith. We engaged a few myconids that were close to our proposed trail to clear it and were successful in destroying them. This was when things started to get strange. It was almost as if I was moving in slow motion as I turned from killing the last myconid with Taj’mirri. I looked up to see the females attacking an ogre magi mage at the back of the chamber. I ran forward to see what was going on and the last thing I recall was the ogre casting, then my world went black.

Sticky strands held me fast in their abrasive embrace. I tried to turn my head but it was immobile due to strands of webbing keeping it still. I was able to see a cavern around me filled with webbing and I noticed a spec on the web in the distance, getting larger. The webbing began to twitch and a tinkling sound began to gnaw at the back of my mind. I saw a beautiful drow female walking along the strands as if they were open streets. She slowly approached and I was unable to pull my gaze from hers no matter what I did. Her bright violet eyes peering into my soul and tearing through my conscious thought. She started to touch my face with one ebon finger as I felt a ripping sensation from behind me. Something was violently trying to rip me from the web and the drow female hissed. Just before I was ripped free by what appeared to my peripheral vision to be a giant claw of some type, she spat violet blood in my face. The hand that had seemed ready to gently caress my cheek lashed out quickly to make an X on my face in the blood before darkness overcame me once more.

(Note: This is a delusion brought on by death and resurrection, not an accounting of what actually happened. The above paragraph is what he thought he saw while dead and not something that was run by a DM.)

I came to full wakefulness at the feet of the Ogre and was told to remain still as it finished its work. For long moments I just stared at the cavern wall, listening as it brought back the two females. The other two males in our party had disappeared and I was too shaken by what had just happened to worry about their absence. I listened to the conversation between the females and the ogre and it explained we owed it a blood debt for being brought back. It said we would enter into an arcane contract to agree to help it destroy a mage of menzoberranzan at a later date. It also stated it required our help to pass a roadblock of drow ahead to gain access to the city. At this point it identified itself as Eoigras; I can only assume this was its name. It said we should thank Malar that he saw fit to return us to this world. This is itself shocked me to my core. It was not Lolth that had sent me back but Malar that had forcibly ripped me free of the demonweb. The dream started to take on a bit of a life of its own in my currently very fragile mind.

The Ogre started to cast and this brought back my attention to it. It had three scrolls and was writing in its own blood upon them while it cast some sort of spell. It had cut open its arm with a rather interesting looking dagger and was writing on the scrolls with its own blood. When it had finished it extended the first contract to Vel’meth and she signed reluctantly. It then offered a contract to me and without thinking I bit down on the inside of my mouth and spat the blood on the contract, then made an X in the blood on it. This brought a chuckle from the ogre before it moved on to the priestess. She of course was very skeptical but eventually her survival instinct must have finally kicked in and she signed.

I’m not sure exactly why I signed the contract this way and what significance it has with my death. Is it Lolth or Malar that caused this reaction from me as it was not something within my character? I suppose it could have been a reaction from my subconscious in response to the stimulus of the scroll. It could have been a last ditch effort of my common sense to override my survival instinct. As we all must at times have faith in something I shall trudge on confident in the fact that currently my faith in myself shall pull me through as all other faith is in chaos.

We set out with the ogre in the lead and slaughtered the rest of the myconids in our path. The shedding of blood and repetition of battle seemed to help to draw me a bit further out of my fugue. We moved quickly through the passages and after clearing the myconids the Ogre took his leave, stating he would be around. Of this fact I certainly had no doubt and therefore made certain I kept my eyes open and active as we traveled. We eventually came upon a small grouping of humanoids ahead and discretion being the better part of valor, decided to bypass them and take an alternate tunnel. Eventually, Taj’mirri whose turn it was on point, returned to the group and reported sighting the roadblock. He stated it was guarded by soldiers of Barrison Del’Armago, second house of Menzoberranzan.

After some conjecture as to how we should approach and why the roadblock might be in place it was decided that Vel’meth should approach by stealth and hail the blockers. If they should be hostile she would retreat to our ambush and we would make a fighting retreat as best we could. She slid off into the shadows and we moved to set up the ambush. After what seemed like quite some time she returned stating that there was a plague outside the area of Menzoberranzan and that the soldiers had orders not to allow anyone entrance. I suppose I should be happy that she didn’t trip on a rock and shoot me in the face on her way back. I find it interesting that my survival instinct which before had walked hand in hand with my subservience to females has begun to override it in regards to the two in my current company.

We decided to press on and try to find an alternate route into the city further into the tunnels. We moved through the tunnels slowly, taking our time and ensuring that the guards at the roadblock did not circle around to ambush us. We moved into a cave that seemed to steadily move upward and Taj’mirri and I took the lead as we moved upwards. As we neared the top of the cavern the Ogre made another appearance and engaged us in conversation. We began to explain to him about the roadblock and plague when Chilli appeared again. She seemed to have met the ogre before and perhaps even battled the creature. After a brief exchange the ogre ran off with her taunts echoing behind it in the cavern.

Chilli then asked what business the ogre had with us that had made it stop to speak with us in the tunnels and not kill us. It was here that the females began to recount the evening’s events to her. As she listened to the females spilling their guts to her, still not knowing who she really was, she seemed to get angrier and angrier. Finally she appeared that she could take no more and revealed herself as Vel’meth’s mother Chalithra Faen Tlabbar. She then exploded on the two females for their various offenses to Lolth and female drow in particular. Not the least of these being the fact that they had let themselves be resurrected from the demonweb by a priest of Malar. I immediately fell to my knees as the closest male to her and well within striking distance. Once again my survival instinct taking over and keeping my mouth shut and body still when she finally got to me and my portion of the events. Eventually her anger ebbed and she took control of the group and led us to the top of the plateau. After forming a defensive ring the females discussed our next destination. Apparently we were coming up on an Underdark settlement and the priestess wanted us to enter and pass through. She would remain incognito for her own reasons during our stay there.

With that we secured the area at the top of the plateau and made camp for the night. Cold rothe jerky and water was the fare of the group and of course the males would maintain the perimeter while the females slept. Once my shift was completed I settled down to return here. The night was a strange one in a myriad of ways for me and my current companions. I am almost past the point of reflection and into the realm of disbelief at much of it. However I have little choice but to carry on as even the embrace of the demonweb has been ripped from me. Nothing in my life is the same and never shall it be again after this night. Much of what I knew and considered constant and or unchanging or changeable has now been brought into question.

Praise Lolth.

Year 1384, Day 29 – Daemons Landing

I entered into this small grouping thinking I was not the only commoner among our ranks. I had hoped there would be at least one other peer among us that I might be able to at least share a slight kinship with. I had thought that person up to tonight was G’eldax and I have discovered I am sadly mistaken. It seems I am truly alone in this endeavor among a passel of nobility. They range from children of third houses to houses not worth mentioning and yet still noble. I am and shall ever be a simple apothecary’s son and only time shall determine if that is boon or bane.

I awoke this cycle to the sound of Taj’mirri and Chalithra speaking in low tones in the center of the camp. G’eldax must have been nearby as my awakening awoke him as well. They ended their conversation with our waking and Chalithra expressed that we should enter Daemons Landing and look around a bit before the group as a whole entered the small city. She stated that she would enter later but that she would not want her identity known due to reasons of her own.

Thus, G’eldax, Taj’mirri and the late rising Vel’meth made the short trek to the city and after a bit of banter with the gate guard we made our way inside. The gate guard directed us to a local drow trading post where we might inquire as to passage to Menzoberranzan or Mantol Derith as well as replenishing our packs. There we met what passes for a leader in the drow sector of the city, a female named Daunylla. Vel’meth and the female leader had the usual verbal sparring match but during it I was able to glean certain bits of information.

It appears we are south of Menzoberranzan currently as she states that the best route there is to the north through what they call the Dark river and Dark Lake. To the south she claims there is a place known as the Hall of the Four Ghosts. And to the east she stated was the Rauvin road which I will have to research to find out destinations from it. We currently stood in the drow sector which was the western quarter of the city. To the south was the Eaoleth and to the north was the rivvil. After a bit of haggling on prices and discussion on travel we were told we could make temporary lodging to the north in the rivvil section until passage could be arranged. We refilled our packs with general provisions and withdrew from the chamber.

Vel’meth was not satisfied with the potential agreement with Daunylla so we traveled to the south to seek out the Eaoleth. My curiosity was peaked as I had never heard of such a people and was interested to see and speak with them. We were met at the bridge to their portion of the city by a Knight named Siolad. Such creatures I had never seen before, pale white skin and fierce features showed them as demon kin. This was truly going to be an interesting evening and a potentially profitable one should I be able to make a trade agreement. After the usual verbal fencing concluded we were conducted to meet his lord. We were taken into a beautiful tower and there we met with the Viscount and his sister.

Upon entering we were introduced to Viscount Tel’mikel Ealoeth, heir to the house of Ealoeth and Lady Shaharazad Ealoeth his older sister. We were also informed that the Knight’s full name was Knight Siolad of the Floshin. Apparently there are three families within the Aelorathi or Fey’ri as they are called in the common tongue, the Ealoeth, Floshin and the Dlargrageth. They seem to favor a very feudal structure within the families, the ranks of the nobles and knight giving this away. Of course one look at the viscount and his sister would have left little doubt to their nobility. We were informed that this settlement was the north gate to the lands of the Daemon Fey which was ruled by a Countess Sarya.

Taj’mirri offered them a bottle of Maerlaethan Blue Wine that he had stolen from the Fortress of Tangled Trees when he was a prisoner there. They were very impressed with this gift and it seemed to break the ice nicely. The lady then took a few moments to regale us with the history of the fall from the surface for her people. Apparently she was extremely old and had been alive for hundreds of years although she looked as young as Vel’meth. She spoke of their fall and the final battle at Hellgate Keep where they made their last stand against the surface elves. Fire seemed to dance in her eyes as she contemplated on the fields of Arvandor being clogged with the bodies of the enemy dead. It was during this retelling that we discovered that the Fey’ri trade with the rivvil for sun elf captives. Being a merchant this immediately caught my eye as a demand that Tuain’t Luthol might supply.

I found this quote particularly interesting from the conversation:

“Tradition and Custom are what separate the civilized from the barbaric.” – Lady Shaharazad Ealoeth.

There are those that have called drow society barbaric for the actions of our race in the past and even in recent nights. We are a culture rich in both tradition and custom on many levels and yet our actions are defined as barbaric. Is it not true that tradition and custom are just factors in a civilized society and it is the measure of its actions that separate it from barbarism? Perhaps I should worry more about my next meal, especially considering I only have 6 gold to my name, and less on philosophy. I definitely need to venture out and try to find a business venture in this city while we are here. I need to refill my pockets so I am more the merchant and less the philosopher warrior.

Year 1384, Day 31 – Daemons Landing

I had heard that dinners with nobles families within their homes were tense to say the least and deadly in the norm. I had thought this was a trait of my peoples society and a by product of our interactions therein. Upon meeting the Fey’ri and joining them for a dinner at their home I have come to the conclusion that it is more of a trait of nobility in general than our society. I am now sure that the least venomous aspect of such a dinner would be the food should it be poisoned and more the words and expressions of those present.

I awoke to discover Vel’meth talking to her aunt about the encounter the previous evening with the Fey’ri. There was the usual family and superiority banter before Chalithra discovered that Vel’meth had performed for the Fey’ri during our encounter. Chalithra took this in a bad way, announcing that now the Fey’ri would consider Faen Tlabbar weak and a family of performers. Thus she decided that we should go and have dinner with them as invited but that Vel’meth must get them to perform for us in turn to even the playing field. I know I have mentioned it before and sarcasm may be lost in my own journal but I so love the ego of the noble, it’s so predictable.

We traveled to the domain of the Fey’ri and were again met by the knight known as Siolad. He bade us wait for the final preparations of the feast and so we stood outside for a while and the nobles discussed the coming encounter while I watched the area. We were bid to table and upon entering the nobles all sat at the table with the Fey’ri while I sat at a nearby table. Apparently the Fey’ri are shape shifters as they had two of their kin in their elf forms serving us that evening. This of course should have been a sign of a bad night to follow but how could we have known that.

The dinner started out fairly tame with light banter back and forth between the nobles and the Fey’ri and a sampling of wines. I declined any food or drink stating religious reasons and this seemed to set the fuse in the keg so to speak. Back in the cave we were told to attempt to stay away from the topic of religion and with Mayffin’s assistance I was able to steer the conversation back to other matters. Sadly however, Vel’meth would not let the subject die, nor would the Viscount. This began the downward spiral of the conversation which ended with the Viscount unable to eat with us and his stating that no nobles in drow culture were true nobles as they would not put their house before their goddess. Therefore we were no longer welcome in the Fey’ri lands until someone defeated the Viscount in personal combat or a noble came forward and stated that they placed their house before their goddess. Needless to say we thanked the lady for the dinner and conversation and then left.

We returned to the cave campsite and I went on watch as the females conferred about the situation and the nights events. I’m told that while I was on watch Chalithra went to the Fey’ri count and defeated him in personal combat. Oh the wonder of the mind of those that lead us. Now not only do we have an unseen foe hunting us, but our “allies” are creating new foes where none were before. I am quickly learning that the outcast female daughter of Faen Tlabbar will do anything in her power to return to her family, including sacrificing us all. Upon returning from the battle, which she almost lost, we were invited to stay with the merchant Daunylla at her compound. I am not entirely sure this is the best course of action for our group but I have little to say in the matter except “yes mistress” and to begin packing.

**At the top of this page are two small spiders drawn in what appears to be drow blood. Under the spiders are the names Mayffin Despana and Claddath.**

May your souls find new service to the Spider Queen within her blessed webs

Year 1384, Day 40 – Daemons Landing

How in the name of the Holy Demonweb do you miss a door opening several times on its own?

My own brush with death was a moment of interest and fear within my life. The servant of Malar that brought me back did so without my consent and ripped me from the arms of my beloved goddess without a by your leave. I did not know Mayffin or the Claddath that long to be sure but I do know that if they have found new purpose within the demonweb then they are truly blessed as Mayffin believed herself to be. I truly hope the Claddath male is of more use to the Spider Queen there than he was here.

We began the evening in the home of the merchant Daunylla speaking of the Fey’ri. Chalithra was musing on the fact that her defeat of the Viscount may have not been the best choice in the matter. Well look who woke up on the smart side of the web this morning. During this conversation she gave out a little more information on the Fey’ri, namely that there were four tribes of them. The fourth tribe that I had missed mention of was the Aelorothi and she also stated that the leader of the Fey’ri was of the Dlardrageth family and a powerful sorceress.

It was during this conversation that Daunylla introduced us to a young male mage that they had found floating in the waters of the lake on their last trip. Apparently the male had lost his memory and had no distinguishing marks or house affiliations on his person when found. If you believe that one I have a nice patch of mushrooms in Shadowdale to sell you. Deception not withstanding we began to question the young man in an attempt to help him recover his memory as well as ensure the safety of our small group. Daunylla had taken to calling the young male “Flotsam” and the name stuck to an extent. Chalithra had decided that we should take the young man into our fold and attempt to help him back to Menzoberranzan. I had been guarding the door with G’eldax and was ordered to instead guard this newcomer by Chalithra. Sadly this would be a move that in no small way caused the death of two members of our band.

While this conversation was occurring a merchant from Mantol Derith appeared through the doorway. We had met him the first evening we all met there and his name was Lomyril Amakiir. He is a slaver and a Nasadran that has affiliations with the White Spider Company. He expressed great relief at finding us alive and gave us word that both Mik’laysee and Ghenni’salla were indeed still alive but that the entire Tuain’t Luthol compound had been destroyed. Of course with later revelation that he was most likely the force behind the coming attack, this information is highly suspect to me.

How in the name of the Holy Demonweb do you miss a door opening several times on its own?

Chalithra retired for yet another bath to the chambers appointed to her by Daunylla. Just at this moment six assassins that had snuck into the building through the front door, which had no less than two females and a male in close proximity to it, struck the party. During the fight, both Mayffin Despana and the Claddath male were killed before we were able to strike down the assassins. I myself was left barely hanging onto life and was luckily able to overpower the last two assassins before they finished the job the ambush started. I have to hand it to the assassins, they waited until G’eldax was out of the room and watching the door from outside to strike and the fight was so quick we were unable to call for his aid.

Several things struck me after this fight that makes my ebony skin crawl like a carrion crawler. Chalithra leaves for the baths, G’eldax is outside and Daunylla is untouched during this fight. On the corpses of the attackers I was able to find a parchment with a complete description of each of the members of our small group with the exception of Flotsam. With G’eldax back on guard I dragged the corpses of the assassins to the water and tossed them in. I discovered the parchments on the assassin’s bodies and took it to Chalithra for her information. Vel’meth then took the possessions off our two dead companions and we placed them in a place for later rites of death. I took a moment to pray to the spider queen over the body of Mayffin before moving back to the main group where the rest of our small band gathered. We decided that we needed more information and wanted to try and track the assassins approach to the building.

We moved out of Daunylla’s home and store and followed the signs to the Fey’ri area. Not a huge surprise there to be sure and if Chalithra is taken by the demonweb tomorrow it will not be a moment too soon. I am still not sure what prompted her to fight the Viscount and therefore cement the bad relations between us, a blind rothe could see the trap lain there for us within his challenge. We followed the signs to a pleasure house known as The House of Dark Delights and moved in rather warily. Putting away our weapons only after prompting we started to inquire about Lomyril there. During our inquiries we came upon a female member of Tuain’t Luthol that was sent supposedly by Mik’laysee to find out what happened to me. Although at this point I see this was yet another test of my patience and devotion by the ventash’ma.

Thou shalt not doubt thy ventash’ma….

Her name was Larthrae and she was a warrior of a sort it seemed so she took up much the same role I had been playing within the small group. Sadly her tongue is only matched in size by her ego and in looseness by her understanding of her place. On several occasions I was forced to stay my hand in removing her taint from the name of our guild by the fact that she was indeed a member of that and as such gained a slight leeway in my eyes. Had she been weakening my place within the small group even this would not have saved her and I spoke to her as much at one point in the steam room. I feel sure that an understanding has been met between us and she would more then likely have said the same in my place. Sadly we discovered little at the establishment other than the fact that the merchant Lomyril came there on occasion to do business and pleasure. It was a starting point one might say and a place we might find advantage in staking out in the future for a little chat with the merchant.

It was at this point in the evening that as I sat in the steam room listening to Vel’meth question and berate a commoner male she found there, that I finally put a piece of the puzzle together. I was recalling the first night in Mantol Derith and the two men I saw but was unable to recognize beside my tent. I knew they were of importance but could not place them for the life of me. Then when I was mentally cross referencing the merchant Lomyril Amakiir with them it came to me. Lomyril trades slaves for House Nasadra and one of the two men beside my tent was none other than Serin the White, ventash’ma of the White Spider Company. So it seems that the White Spider Company and House Nasadra, First House of Ched Nasad is both working against the small alliance between Tuain’t Luthol and Faen Tlabbar of Menzoberranzan.

Thou shalt not doubt thy ventash’ma….
Thou shalt not doubt thy ventash’ma….

I hope you know what you are doing Mik’laysee, the biggest merchant house and first family in Ched Nasad both against us. I am not entirely sure it wouldn’t be a bad idea to cut our losses in this venture and move on. This was an alliance best held in secret and as recent events illustrate, the secret is more than out. I have survived two assassination attempts so far, surely by the grace of the spider queen but how long will her grace truly last in this matter?

I don’t like it.

Trazk watched the door to his chambers close behind Mik’laysee after their conversation. He stood for a moment or two just staring at the heavy steel door, tracing the outline of the steel supports in its frame before shaking his head to clear the fugue. With a small sigh he stepped forward and pulled out his key and locked the door behind the bard.

Once a ventash’ma…

A dry chuckle escaped his lips and he realized he had not had any drink or food since much earlier in the cycle. He made his way to the small bar in his chambers and alleviated that situation. As he sat beside the bar and chewed on cold rothe steak his eyes traveled over the room. With a quick glance about the room he stood and made his way to his personal chest and after a few moments of disarming traps with deft fingers he opened the container. Reaching into his tunic he removed the bag of jewels he had found on the orc earlier and dropped it into the chest.

Scoured Legion…Qu’ellar Melarn…Qu’ellar Di’Dgtuu…

Soon after, his studded leather and the bag of gold from Rua followed the first bag into the chest. His mind wandered as he removed his armor to the events of the night, his eyes traveling across the room randomly as if to mirror the chaos in his mind. They fell upon an old leather bound journal in the chest and Trazk nodded to himself and picked up the tome. He thumbed through the pages for a moment and then tossed it to his desk.

Events are in motion, I must ensure my thoughts are clear and information is intact, time for the journal once more I think.

Trazk took a few moments to stretch his muscles out, the stress of the scouting mission having taken their toll on him. It wasn’t a long or particularly difficult mission but due to some of the shadows he was forced to slide into to remain unseen on it he had grown stiff. After finishing his stretching and then his dinner he poured himself a small glass of wine and moved to his desk. He pulled out quill and ink and thumbed to a new page and with a steady hand began to write.

Once again I find myself back in the machinations of noble houses, demons and demon kin and even those of my own merchant house. Just another cycle in the life of dark and beautiful Ched Nasad it seems. I returned from my time assigned to the crossroads of Mantol Derith to find a new ventash’ma and that ibith Rua in charge of Tuain’t Luthol. I can only assume that dealings with Qu’ellar Claddath and Qu’ellar Tlabbar of Menzoberranzan did not work out as he planned, thus his command has been terminated. The new ventash’ma obviously finds amusement in this situation as he has allowed Mik’laysee to live and even remain within the company. I can not personally see the wisdom of keeping such an individual within the company, knowing he has aspirations to return to his position but then again where better to keep an eye on the mouthy bard. Do not misunderstand me, I have great respect for the former ventash’ma but at the same time he can be extremely frustrating and not always in a productive manner. However I find myself on the same strand as he in the Dark Mothers web so for now we travel together and dance together in her strands to her delight. We have acquired a new occupant of the strand as well. Pharaun is still an unknown entity within the game as he shows signs of potential allegiance to both sides of the board. I find myself at a table with an unseen opponent, standing behind Mik’laysee as he makes moves. I look up and see that we are indeed in a smaller square on another board and this is no great comfort to me, yet I revel in it. Underneath it all, filling the senses and holding it all together is the web of the Dark Mother.

Recent events

Two nights ago Mik’laysee, Pharaun and I accompanied two noble sons of Qu’ellar Claddath to handle a chore for their matron. It seems a female had started a cult to some pretender to the Dark Mother and then had been intelligent enough to insult a matron of a qu’ellar. I will not elaborate on the stupidity of this action as it should be readily apparent to any that have been out of their mother’s womb for more than a cycle. On behalf of the noble sons we tracked the cult to their ramshackle place of worship and quickly dispatched the Dark Mother’s justice upon them on behalf of the matron and Qu’ellar Claddath. We took the false priestess alive and after questioning her discovered that we had indeed destroyed the entire nest that she and her sister had been building. It was no small amusement to find ibith, human ibith there and worshiping this entity. One would assume that even in their obviously deluded state the females would eventually look around them and notice their plight. It only proves once more to me that walking on the web of the Dark Mother is the only path.

This evening we were again engaged by a son of Qu’ellar Claddath to perform a task. This time the briefing was given by the ibith Rua which I find harder to stomach at every turn. Under Mik’laysee the Minotaur knew its place as bodyguard to the ventash’ma and was seen and not heard. Now it seems the ibith has been given a place in the company overseeing drow. This does not sit well with me and I can see this shall have to be remedied in the future. The creature will make a mistake and when it does I shall make a cushion for my chair from its hide.

However I digress, it seems Qu’ellar Claddath was curious if Qu’ellar Melarn had been actively pursuing the task given them of clearing the halls to the west of level three of the undesirable creatures that had found their way there of late. Qu’ellar Claddath had paid well to have the three of us escort the noble son known as Xerhthral into the tunnels to investigate and ensure he returned in one piece. I’ll not go into too much detail on the trip itself except to remark on Mik’laysee’s continued large mouth that still amazes me in the fact that it has not swallowed a poisoned bolt as yet. He adores playing with fire, especially female fire and that is not a fire that I find particularly attractive to dance in. I prefer to remain out of the sight of females whenever possible, if they do not even notice my presence then all the better.

We traveled out with Pharaun in charge and me as designated scout. The path wasn’t particularly hard to follow and eventually we came upon an orc battling a hook horror. The orc seemed off somehow however and later after closer examination of its corpse its half fiend blood was readily apparent. The orc dispatched the horror and I was able to follow its blood trail back to a meeting with a drow female. From hiding I heard the conversation between the female and the ibith but was unable to see her face at all without compromising my hiding place. She informed the ibith to tell Khannyrr that all would be accomplished and that the Di’Dgtuu and the others would never know what happened. After the female departed Pharaun wanted the head of the orc for proof we had been there and so we lured he and an ogre that was nearby into an ambush. The fight was quick and ugly for the ibith of course and we took the head without injury. The orc had an interesting symbol on its clothing as well which I hastily drew on a cloth to take as proof as well.

Sketch of symbol of the Scoured Legion

After obtaining my fee from the orc for the time I spent tracking it in the form of a bag of gems it carried I led our small group back to Ched Nasad with our trophies. We parted ways with the noble son after entering the gates of the city and made our way back to the company hall. We delivered our proof to Rua and were paid for our trouble with coin and an interesting bit of information. Rua took the symbol and in true ibith fashion roared an outburst of his dismay stating that a he was starting to move too early. This seems to illustrate duplicity between at least the ibith and the Scoured Legion or at least that he is aware of what may be going on in the tunnels. Needless to say this was not what I wanted to learn upon return but as the cycle grew close to ending we started to retire. Perhaps a minotaur rug, beside the door to clean my boots as I come home would be better.

As I walked the halls of the company hold I heard gruff voices coming from the prisoner’s area. As I did not recall any prisoners being taken recently I went to investigate with Mik’laysee arriving just as I did. We discovered that all of our Duergar guards had been imprisoned on suspicion of conspiracy with enemies of the company. Mik’laysee questioned one of them briefly under the gaze of the jailor and we departed, somewhat more uneasy than before.

There are many pieces on the boards currently and many are still hidden in mystery and suspicion and doubt. I shall have to keep my eyes open and blade sharp in the coming cycles as this is coming to a head and I have the feeling that I shall find my way into its maelstrom. To all appearances it seems that the third house may be moving against the second with the support of the demon hordes of the Kannyr Vhok. This is information we have and fairly good proof to back it up through the conversation I witnessed. Sadly I was unable to put face to the female in the tunnels, a Melarn female at that scene would have proven much.
This game gets more deadly by the moment with much to gain and even more to lose.
