If this were a pizza, we wouldn't be ordering any because we just couldn't agree on the toppings.

No, if this were a pizza we'd be ordering one without the CHEEZ!!!
I keed.
To take your pizza analogy, what we actually decided is to go ahead and order one without olives and anchovies. We're still gonna have ALFA, we're just not including a few of the more exotic toppings.
Because even though those who don't like the toppings can pick them out or even quarantine the unwanted toppings to just one half of the pizza... well, it's still been contaminated!
That anchovy oil is still on my piece! Yuch.

The anchovies-pizza analogy is a useful one, as it captures the situation somewhat as I understand it- even if they were to pick them off the pizza, or choose a slice without them, the smell of the anchovies being on the rest of the pizza was enough to make about half of our voting DMs loose their appetite, so to speak.
We've got some time before Live rolls around- I doubt many will be passing ALFA by on the sole basis of any decision not to include planetouched PCs. If someone wants to try to break down the details of the DM sentiment with regard to planetouched PCs, and see how much of that is addressable, there is likely some room for that. In the meantime, what we have is a clear sign that planetouched PCs are a serious concern for a significant "slice" of our active engaged DM/builder contingent for NWN2.
Which, I think, was what we were trying to determine with the poll.

Meh, give it six months and we'll be here again. After all, they used to be "in."

I'm going to have to disagree with Mikayla here in implying that ALFA is/has been "leading edge". In my opinion, ALFA has never been leading edge.
ALFA caters specifically to a niche crowd.
If we wanted leading edge, we'd be like CoA or other ones that offer more options to a broader audience, as well as good RP. Not GREAT RP, but good.
We all have to make sacrifices. I voted no because of how much source material includes them in their breakdowns? There is far more source material for Drow, Duergar and Svirfneblin and how the other races feel about them. I feel what we need is consistency and solid information on them before allowing players access to them. Perhaps that will come soon. Perhaps not at all.
Me, personally, don't feel inclined to learn about them or how they will fit in to the areas I build. Heck, I didn't even know what they were until NWN2 came out. Besides, I already have enough on my plate without worrying about NPC reactions to them. Though, in my eyes, they would be treated more like demons than Drow because of their unfamiliarity.
It's not that I won't learn, or that I won't change my mind, because who knows, I might. Right now, based upon the provided information, I voted the way I did.
Don't get me wrong either. I love the playerbase, otherwise I would not have spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours building in the toolset, a majority of the time by myself.

One can be leading edge AND appeal only to a niche market - those two concepts are not mutually exclusive. Indeed, by being on the leading edge, a niche market concern (like ours) overcomes a bit of its "niche"ness because of its additional leading edge appeal.
As for the rest of your opinion, no problem, everybody is entitled to an opinion.

I's very insulting to the majority of our NWN2 DMs to suggest they are too weak-minded to make their own considered decisions.Swift wrote:

Perhaps i should have said 'to attempt to sway peoples opinions'. The fact that for almost every major change proposed to DMs and players alike, fear mongering and focusing on the negatives makes up quite a large amount of the discussion.Mayhem wrote:I's very insulting to the majority of our NWN2 DMs to suggest they are too weak-minded to make their own considered decisions.Swift wrote:

Taken out of context, that comment isn't completely falseMayhem wrote:I's very insulting to the majority of our NWN2 DMs to suggest they are too weak-minded to make their own considered decisions.Swift wrote:
