Of the 14 who mentioned they were Level 10 or above 6 forgot to mention what their current Level was. For the sake of determining the average Level of our player base could you please state it if you are not on this list?

Thank you.

Swift: 10 or are you about to hit 11? Pick one please.

My current PC is level 3.
I retired my previous PC at level 6 when his story arc ended.
I retired the PC before that at level 11 because he was the highest level "bad guy" PC in the game and I thought he was overbalancing since at that time ALFA was focused on low levels and low magic.

Yeah, I know that but if your going to level in the next few days I'll set it to 11. Just wasn't sure how close "nudging" was.

Lvl 10.

Pretty close to lvl 11 but not sure if I'll get there anytime soon.

Created the character shortly after Selgaunt went live which was either December 03 or January 04, I can't recall.

So thats what, 19-20 months?

And there it is. Why are you so paranoid? Why do you say the same thing in every thread I comment on? You constantly suggest there must be an ulterior motive for asking questions and I don't understand why.

Kate
*chuckles* I'm not suggesting any ulterior motive, I'm just wondering why you're suddenly so concerned when we've had poll after poll about this. It doesn't strike me as something out of idle curiosity, so you probably have a purpose. Else, why bother?

perhaps its just me, but i don't much want to vote. Levels, to me, shouldn't be such a large factor in things. *shrugs*

Just seems like MKate is just gauging numbers of players and their current pcs lvls to me .......
if u break it down to lvl groups as it stands now:

lvl 1-3 : 36 (31.5%)
4-6 : 40 (35%)
7-9 : 22 (19.2%)
10+: 16 (14.3%)

Interesting thing about character levels ... over time, they tend to change. Some characters garner experience and gain more levels. Other characters die, and their players create new ones, which all start at level 1 (as opposed to, say, the now-dead level 4 character).

In addition, new people join ALFA, and old leave. This can also affect how many characters are at X level.

Polls like this are like the age demographics produced for the governments of nations (and advertising executives ... ), or any type of survey that will be used to draw later conclusions. They have to be re-done every so often or else they'll be so out of date as to be useless.

Actually you can tell a lot of things by Levels, how many are playing and how often. Just for starters:

1. Does the content match the player base? Too easy, too hard etc...
2. Is ALFA growing or shinking?
3. Are members playing less, the same or more?
4. Are rule changes having the desired effect on the player base over the long term?
5. Is levelling speeding up, constant or slowing down?

Being able to compare these things every 6 months or so allows ALFA to get a pulse on the health of it's community. At least then you know what the issues really are and if the changes are working. This is common sense stuff to me because ALFA is your brand and your players are it's consumers. Any company worth a salt, even not-for-profits look at what's happening around them so they can adjust quickly and efficiently. Anything less is pure wasted energy.

Okay, you do mention taking numbers every 6 months or so, but without being able to match people to servers, knowing the level alone isn't going to help. A script to go through logs could parse for much more useful information.
2. Is ALFA growing or shinking?
How does this correlate to a PCs Level?
3. Are members playing less, the same or more?
Again, how does this correlate to a PCs level? One would think that if they play more, that they would level more, but knowing a PCs level is only one part of the information necessary. Me for example, i used to play much more than i do now (due to RL), but if you look at my level alone, you may think i'm on 24/7.
4. Are rule changes having the desired effect on the player base over the long term?
A fair question, but if given someone's level, how is this representative of the effect of rules? Not all rules (in fact few) are related to leveling rate.
5. Is levelling speeding up, constant or slowing down?
This seems good, but again you have to take the information consistantly. Much better to do in a script to parse logs.

In essence, i don't think what you're doing is wrong, i just don't think its going to give you the information you want.

Okay, you totally missed the point of what I said. I never said it was about levels alone, I said it in combination with other information that would prove usefull as a comparison some set period in time down the road.

There will be no script, there will be no NWN2x, there will be no analysis of our combined logs. Nothing. Don't you see? So, what options do we have left given those facts to check in on the health of our player base? And why is that idea so rancid to some?

I personally feel there is merit in looking into these things and I think it is possible to shed some light that just might make things better. Call me stupid but I feel it's worth the effort.
