'''Background:''' Caine Kross was raised in a large extended family "the Caines" of Beregost farmers under her given name which is rarely spoken. Her family serves the church as their field workers and at least one of them every generation is sent to be a clergy member or a knight.

Caine is named for a famous hero who saved her great-great grandfather's entire village in the Dalelands long ago. Again one child in every generation is chosen to take the name Kross to pass on the remembrance of that legacy and that important battle.

She has walked behind the steps of the Most Radiant of Lathander, Kelddath Ormlyr in processions for all of her life and trusts him implicitly. She also knows an inflated version of the story of Blaise Dawnbright the Dawnbreaker, who saved the Gate from vampires, but was killed with his two companions from the Sword's Edge.

As a junior squire who was waiting for a Knight to take her on as their charge she tried very hard to get the attention of any Knight she could through various enthusiastic means. Because she was so restless and was constantly getting into scraps with the other squires who had knights, the Song of the Morning appointed her to her Uncle Sir Holbretch's care.

They hoped she would grow up a little and learn to share the Light of Lathander with the rest of the Sword Coast and beyond. Unfortunately, Uncle Sir Holbretch, a Knight of Helm, had deceived the church about his status as a Knight and in his faith.

After he disappeared under suspicious circumstances, Caine went on with her training, seeking out various masters of faith, such as the Lady Theresa of Ruqel, to guide her on her journey.  As well she continued to fight evil at every turn and become a notable hero along her portion of the Sword Coast.

Eventually, due to her involvements with various companies and the guild of the Sword's Edge she completed the trials of the Order of the Aster and was Knighted in the Song of the Morning, Lathander's temple in Beregost.

Three words to describe her are innocent, faithful, and enthusiastic. She hyper-actively attempts to embody all the traits of Lathander to the point of often wearing herself out.
