So... your comic is to tell us the -6 safety will be disabled for the event?

The power of concealment lies in revelation.
Re: King of the Ring
The -6 safety net will apply to any match where it is fists or padded weapons.
It is the -expectation- in a KO only match that that is the end of the fight.
To be fair, the -6 safety net will likely also apply in any death match, since there is no easy way (that I know of) to turn off the damn thing.
It is the -expectation- in a death match that a killing blow will then be administered (hopefully in an awesome rp'd fashion)
*Note - A death match is only (officially) a death match if both competitors agree to fight to the death.

Ah throw "deathmatch" on the spinning wheel. Tricky spectator with Mage hand nudges the wheel to stop at death.

It would be way easier to have any fights to the death end with the victor delivering a killing blow to the incapacitated foe.Rumple C wrote:To be fair, the -6 safety net will likely also apply in any death match, since there is no easy way (that I know of) to turn off the damn thing.
Experts tampering with the death system frequently (read: typically) break it; amateurs have no hope. It is a balrog, and shout though you may "You shall not pass," you're neither servant of the secret fire nor wielder of the flame of Anor.

I agree with this, just do a thumbs down from the judge, Ceasar style. Or just let the thug PCs kill each other. Who cares it's Skaug.

"Contrary to popular belief, the emperor did not give a thumbs up or down for a gladiator as a signal to kill his enemy. The emperor (and only the emperor) would give an open or closed hand – if his palm was flat, it meant “spare his life”, if it was closed, it meant “kill him”. If a gladiator killed his opponent before the emperor gave his permission, the gladiator would be put on trial for murder, as only the emperor had the right to condemn a man to death."

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Re: King of the Ring
Since Rumple is taking some time off, do we have another DM who wants to continue this? I'd like to run bits* of it but can't do the whole thing.
* BG's portion and parts of the Skullport finale.

Re: King of the Ring
I can run pit fights on MS, and can follow Rumple's plans if he left any notes (I don't see any in the MS forums at first glance, but I should be able to dig deeper later today). If not, I would plan for an event that's mostly about spectacle. And orc boobs. The sort seems to be the promise of Rumple.
Re: King of the Ring
Can't see this flying without Rumple.
When Zelk or Ronan tell you you're getting a -5 to your AC because the crowd hates you, you won't take it well.
When Rump says it you go: "Damn that rumple's so hot right now."
And without silly shit like this we can just give the cup to the highest level showing up and be done with it. Boring.

Re: King of the Ring
We had our own super-secret forums, though there isn't a lot in them.
Kid, we did not plan for anything that artificial. However if you're looking for fairness, you're going to need to look elsewhere. Still the best thing may be to just wait for Rumple.

Re: King of the Ring
Plenty of sound in-character reasons to sway a fight without something that terrible.
That said, yeah like Ronan says. The event description-- and the public discussions held immediately after-- make it pretty clear that acknowledging a complete lack of fairness is the minimum buyin for the event. Best to be a spectator (and wear your purse inside your pants) if you'd be unhappy with the terms.

Re: King of the Ring
Go for it guys and gals, I'd love an event like this (or any other for that matter) DMed by either/both Ronan and Zelk; pretty sure most other folks would as well.

Re: King of the Ring
I've already DM'd one event on BG in the new Fight Club. If it is popular I can support more, though I'm a more into dungeons and dragons.
