Rump:
Turning into a bear is considered "cheating". Normal people do not turn into bears.
"Normal" people can't see in the dark, live for multiple centuries, cast spells, turn undead, throw a "flurry" of kicks and punches, defeat gravity with a tumble-check, take more physical damage than a Tyranosauros Rex or any number of other things ...

... but people in Faerun can!

Regardless, by the time we get to the end of this competition, one fighter will be heavily favored over the challenger, but that heavily favored fighter is going to suffer an shocking upset.

*****

In a dimly lit tavern not far from Skullport's fighting arena, Aliyah sits across a table from Bu.

"In the fifth," Aliyah says, "your ass goes down. Say it."

Bu looks at her emotionlessly across the table. "In the fifth, my ass goes down."

Aliyah stares back at him. "You see, this profession is filled to the brim with unrealistic motherfuckers. Motherfuckers who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't."

"But, uh, in D&D we DO get better with time," Bu improvised off script, "we go up in levels, get more hitpoints, better bonuses, more spells, I mean, hell, by the time most people are ready to retire we are veritble gods of ..."

"The night of the fight," Aliyah interuppted, "you may feel a slight sting. That's pride fucking with you. Fuck pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps."

"But ..."

"Cut, cut already, thats a wrap."

cue music ...

Epic.
Formerly: Aglaril Shaelara, Faerun's unlikeliest Bladesinger
Current main: Ky - something

It’s not the critic who counts...The credit belongs to the man who actually is in the arena, who strives violently, who errs and comes up short again and again...who if he wins, knows the triumph of high achievement, but who if he fails, fails while daring greatly.-T. Roosevelt

I will be assisting Rumple with this epic plot (whether he likes it or not). The finals will be extra-awesome ... and deadly.

I approve you riffing on my satire above, but when you do satire, you're supposed to make it funny, not some juvenile fantasy about how bad ass your character is. Note, in my satire, I make YOUR PC the smart one (pointing out that D&D characters actually DO get better with age) while making my PC the ignorant one. Then you come along and get the movie and quotes right, but go off on this misogynistic beating thing without adding any actual satirical content. In short, your riff was less satire and more masturbation.

Class dismissed.

wow

You're totally wrong.

((since you started the "fun"))
I was just continuing along, expecting you'd laugh-out-loud again and carry on.

Was just trying to continue the fun, it was in no way how you explained it ((masturbation? really? LOL please.. i saw no 'exteme' sexual references... but anyway))

In fact I don't think about my PC how you assume I do at all, he's not "macho", nor does he act that way IC (it's quite the opposite, more than many level 1 PCs insult, belittle, and downright laugh at Bu quite often, to which he shyly moves off). No big deal here. No "macho" IRL either... lol it's just a game.

You used pulp fiction.... i used the logical next part of the exchange ALL INTENTS in JEST.

But hey, i've read the posts, the endless posts.... from you in all our long ALFA history... there's just no winning - and I expect you to flame the fucking shit out of me again so i'll just try my best to difuse this surprise incident as best I can.

I'm truly sorry YOU took it the wrong way. My "retort" was not in any way antagonistic... it's unfortunate you took it that way. Very.

I apologize, and will be removing my post immediately so your murderer does not get a "bad reputation" ((*snort*)) ?? not really sure why you went the way you did --- I hope you feel better now? a little sarcasm for you... The truth is I am not the kind of person that ever wants anyone to "feel bad" in any way.

Sorry. Sincerely. It was not meant to cause....this. :(

EDIT: And just one more point... not sure about anyone else, but coming from the original-post-standpoint again which was not "supposed to be fun" but WAS for fun, ...i must say, i thought my post was hilarious. ((you said my post was just a bunch of macho shit, and supposed to be funny))... *shrugs* coming from the non-antogonistical standpoint i was... well.. to me it was funny, and i thought you would to. :(

I will be tooling an assortment of potential weapons for this, from fighter stools (the kind you sit on, not as a result of breakfast) to.... *meta*

Even more interestingly, as per kids suggestion, I can tool up an invisible dagger item, attach a penalties, call it a "fist" and you can "dual wield" (an extra attack per turn) if you so choose.

To avoid AOOs, we'll need them.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

cool!....but but but who needs inviso daggers when your paws are basketball sized battering rams of muscle and spiked bone, with ten 6 inch razors for claws and 31 strength?

oh forget it, ((WAY TOO macho sounding there!)) Bu's not going to the sillyness anymore anyway - the "thrill" has "passed" ...like Rumple's breakfast.

Invisible daggers will break monks, one should note.

I'm sure Rumple meant to write invisible kamas.

Not that monks need anything to simulate their fists, those things already count as weapons!

Business idea, let's hunt some monks and sell their fists :chin:.

And kudos to Rumple for his boundless energy and drive!
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

The other part is that giving not-properly-trained opponents invisible daggers will deny the monks attacks of opportunity (which they should indeed get, because they have improved unarmed strike and their opponents don't). The broken interaction is if neither fighter has improved unarmed strike (in which case neither should provoke an AoO, because neither counts as armed)

Jayde's old pitfighting plot revealed that being a monk isn't the best path to winning these things anyway. Victory goes to puffy-haired mustachioed braggarts and shirtless raging orc women. We shouldn't deny monks their advantages, though.

Monks will be properly catered for, and will not be slighted. I'll just have to put some thought into how.

If you want to put monks into this thing in an unarmed contest without giving non-monks something to deal with AOO, I say just give the first prize to the bigger level monk in game now and be done with this, because that is who will win all things being even.
