Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
Word arrives at the House of the Sharpened Axe from Tempus' Tears. The guards there are reporting odd and troubling sounds drifting over the hill from the area of the ruins. A scout was sent to look into it, but could not get very close due to the way being blocked by a few large spiders. The scout did report that he saw a winged figure from a great distance. It looked to be....on fire.
The priests at the Temple are short of hands just now and offer a sum of 50pp to any who can deal with what is obviously a threat to the village.
Encounter set with some (not all) loot. PM me with the unique item that is there and I will catch up with you and yours for xp and additional loot/payout.
Suitable (I think?) for a party of levels 4-7. I should point out that trying to sneak in/out, even with invisibility, to get the loot is not an IC option without a DM present. Plan accordingly.

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
A Merchant League Caravan arrives in Beregost having come in from Nashkel. They relate coming across a grisly and puzzling scene south of Beregost. They describe finding a partially incinerated wagon, several charred corpses, one partially eaten corpse away from the rest, and three dead wyvern.
The Caravan master forbade his men delay them to bury bodies, but on arriving in Beregost, they notify the Temple of Lathander. The priests plan to dispatch some acolytes to tend to the dead after matins in the morning.
If anyone is in the vicinity of Beregost, they can hear of this. If anyone wants to go investigate (before the site gets cleaned up), either PM me or ping me on IRC and I'll oversee the investigation. We can run it comic book time, if necessary.

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
The Captain of the Amnian Contingent in Nashkel reports that an Amnian merchant reported having fallen under attack in the pass through the mountains above Nashkel. The merchant reported at least two giants came against them in the pass. He and his assistants managed to escape with their lives, but only barely.
He goes on to report that the giants had a large reptile on a chain that looked very much like a small dragon. The Captain discounts this as impossible, but the merchant has circulated the tale widely in the village. The merchant reports his cargo consisted mostly of fine Amnian Port Wine and he thinks it likely there are drunken frost giants menacing the pass at this very moment.
The Captain suggests that the pass needs to be scouted and, if the merchant's story is true, cleared of drunken giants and dragons. Since the merchant's story seems so incredulous to him, the Captain has stated that any cargo remaining belongs to the individual(s) completing the task, much to the chagrin of the aforementioned merchant.
Encounter and loot set. Suitable for a party of PCs of level 8-10 (again, I think?)

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
Visitors to Gullykin who ask after local news learn that a particularly vicious wild animal has been seen near the trail to the Firewine Ruins. The village folk are concerned that their children might be at risk, given that they enjoy playing in the open area below the village.
The Gullykin militia captain plans to muster a squad to investigate and deal with whatever is there. However, if any travelers offer to help, the militia would be most appreciative and would be willing to compensate them.
Encounter set. Suitable for a party of PCs levels 2-4. If anyone completes the task or if someone wants to try it without lethal force, PM me and we will see what we can do.

Since I received no PM for this, I am going to assume it was not completed before the server reset/update. I am therefore bumping the rumor. The encounter is reset.Mick wrote:Visitors to Gullykin who ask after local news learn that a particularly vicious wild animal has been seen near the trail to the Firewine Ruins. Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
Arsa von Tharin, BG's resident herbalist and financier of mushroom hunters everywhere, is concerned.
She relates that every year at this time the Garnishcaps grow thick in the Cloakwood. There is a particular copse of trees around which the soil is ideal for them. She laments that the 'shrooms always attract all manner of scavenging vermin, which in turn often attract larger predators. Her lamentation is for some poor, as yet unidentified, soul who always seems to meet its end trying to claim the fungal bounty.
She encourages caution, but (with a Sense Motive roll against a DC 14) the tone in her voice suggests she would be thrilled should someone accomplish the harvest.
(Herbal whores beware. Encounter is set. If asked, she offers no reward, save payment for the 'shrooms.)

Raised voices, mostly from an unwelcome half-orc, at the Helm and Cloak. Something about certain of the other adventuresome patrons being thieves? My word!

As of late, a tall bearded man with a deep scar at his throat has been seen with a young girl at the shrine of Ilmater in Baldur's Gate. He has stated his name to be Tristan, and has asked for the poor to bring their sick and hungry. He spends his day with help from his young assistant tending to those who need it and passing blessings of The Endurer.

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
Reports trickle in from just south of the Gate that a band of gnolls has been seen lingering in the Cloakwood Hills. One worker reported that he first saw the band as they wandered into the Hills. He said they moved up the valley toward the old ruins, but soon returned. A Duchal guard reports the group is acting odd. They are not threatening, but seem stirred up by something.

The Burning Maiden arrives in port and her captain immediately makes for the Harbormaster's Office. Captain Djale reports that along the coast to the south, he estimates near the Cloakwood, his lookout spied giantkin high on the cliffs. They counted at least six large forms on the point. His man could not determie their exact intent as they sailed past, but it did appear they were fortifying their position.

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
An excited bard wearing a silver dragon emblazoned cloak returned to town to tell the tales of the three brave men and a valiant lass in her shining armor that, with him, took to the task and removed the threat of a dozen giants and a score of gnolls that had begun setting up a fortress in forest on the cliffs overlooking the river... soon to begin threatening trade for certain with their boulders thrown into passing ships.
They returned to the city somewhat worse for wear, but heroically triumphant and victorious they reported to the Duke that the threat has been removed.

Re: Tavern Tales and Rumours
A boldly scribed message is posted about the city on message boards, and at the docks Harbor Master's office.
Any captain that needs to make sure his ship's cargo arrives safely and swiftly should seek to hire out Mossin, chosen of the sky god, lord and master of the winds.
Ask for or leave Leave word at the Blade & Stars
With notable exception, within the Helm & Cloak, and in the finer quarters of the city, the finely scribed message reads as follows.
Any worthy captain seeking assurance of Ship and Cargo reaching intended port with alacrity and intact should seek to employ Mossin, chosen of the 'Sky God', 'Lord and Master of the winds'.
Inquiries to be made care of Aundegal Shawn, Owner of the Blade & Stars public house.
