Getting the best of the best

Post by ElCadaver »

Anyone who has seen NWVault knows there are heaps of excellent builders producing amazing work. I'm talking about the award winners (jlf2n, Lady Lilia/Shimmer, SGK73) and such. I have a simple idea which may attract these people to ALFA. Not much of the PR seems to be aimed at getting good technical people (forgive me if I'm wrong), though we have the stalwarts which have been there from the begining, and are doing an excellent job.

I was thinking, where areas are not effected too much by canon (forests etc), if we see anything on NWvault that is amazing, we could approach the creator about using in on ALFA servers. The kudos for them would be a custom loading splash screen for the area with a picture of the area, it's name, and their sig in the corner. That way ALFAns get to know whose the work is, the ALFA gets buy-in from the featured builders.

There are also a lot of areas which may fit in with canon areas (candlekeep was one), and even if they don't, once we have these people on board, we could explain our goals and see if they wish to oblige with canon areas.

Imagine having heaps of excellent builders (interior and exterior) all trying to out do each other on our servers?

What do you think?

I believe jlf2n made the Candlekeep that is presently in the Live Baldur's Gate server, he worked with Ayergo on the initial build.

I agree with trying to attract new tech oriented folk and builders, and utilizing premade generic areas if possible and desired.

The only sticking point I can see is that those individuals would have to agree to allow ALFA perpetual use of those areas, even if they lost interest. Everything going into an ALFA mod becomes property of ALFA and no individual has the right to dictate how it is used. If that hurdle can be overcome with each contributor or area used, then I see absolutely no problem using and encouraging content from outside our borders.

Some of the ongoing builds may even catch someones attention and have those excellent builders stay
