ALFA rules for NWN2 characters

Post by hollyfant »

Do we have a definitive list of the rules for and changes to skills, races, Gods and spells for NWN2 characters? And if so: where?
I'd hate to have to go spelunking through three months of forum posts in eight categories. :hm:

I was curious about this too. I thought I read somewhere that we were only allowed one PC per player or some such, but now I can't find where it is, and don't have the time to go, as hollyfant gracefully put it, spelunking through weeks' worth of posts to find it.

Plus, it'd be nice to have quick access to this vital information, especially for new players.

I believe Rotku, the PA's new Documentation Chief, will be updating the APM or providing something similar.
Enjoy the game

One PC per player has always been a rule and it's highly unlikely that it will change. But since we (might) be getting a whole lot of different rules and guidelines it may be a good idea to revamp the player's manual. Maybe this is even in the plans already.

Actually... we can have one NWN1 PC and one NWN2 PC. For a grand total of two (2) PCs. :luff:

edit: and one in each OAS! :luff::alright:

A slight amendment to Holly's post above....

Both OAS1 and OAS2 have never had any limitations reguarding how many PC's you can have at one time. To my knowledge this has not changed, so If you wanted, you could have as many PC's on either or both as you want. The idea being, OAS (1/2) is the perfect place to try out PC concepts until you find one you like!

This is much more appeasing to me. I was slightly disheartened by the restriction, thinking that if I got bored with a certain PC for whatever reason.. what then?

At least this way, I understand the logic behind it. Thank you, sir.

Live servers are just as good place to try out until you find one you like. If you're anything like me you'll go through dozens of PCs, with them dying left, right and centre. The one that finally lives, you have no choice BUT to like.

Gods are the FR gods, Skills and Spells have no changed as of yet, from what I can tell, and Races, all non-Planetouched are currently allow.

Hoping to have the AMP finished by mid next week. It should have all this information.

Don't think we've even discussed domains, have we? Might have to work up a new table on accepted domains for dieties since it's a different set in NWN2.

It sounded like Spell changes were an ongoing thing, possibly in part being solved by some guy's work on the vault being incorporated into a recent patch... sorry, forget the name. Still, other ALFA specific stuff seems ongoing, such as all the work Bartleby was doing on highly customizable summons.

One thing not mentioned above was re: classes & available PRCs, and what abilities might tie to them.

NWN1, some PRCs were knocked out for PCs, those that survived saw prerequisites sometimes changing (often to leverage "custom" skills as opposed to the Bioware suggested ones), and powers sometimes having to alter (think of how the Shadowdancer HIPS power varies from the unhak'd single player game). NWN2 I'm assuming the same thinking will need to take place, since no one would take a PRC at 2nd or 3rd level anyhow, warning players that the topic is still TBD might at least prevent people from pursuing what ends up being impossible or unattractive.

Same may go for the Obsidian interpretation of even the powers of non-prestige classes, in cases where they don't trace back very well to Dungeons & Dragons. I seem to recall a lot of concern about Warlock business like "Flee the Scene" even on day one of the game coming out, I sure don't recall resolution though. (Skip that they aren't now, and never will be, a major part of Faerun 3.5 canon, since everything's racing to 4E too fast for Warlock superstar NPCs to get published)

Anyhow, that's only an example of "powers that may not have been figured" on even core-seeming classes.

Maybe the #alfa-builders chatlog of a couple weeks ago still has a bunch of open switches that'd need reflection in any documentation that says "this is what you can expect in ALFA if rolling up..." Lot of topics might still simply be TBD, no idea if the solution is to let people invest into PCs or paths to PRCs and then find out they're dead end / nerfed a month later, say "don't take this class or this power or this feat or this spell til it's reviewed", or say "take this class/power/feat at own risk of disappointment/rebuild/retire."
ALFA NWN2 PCs: Rhaggot of the Bruised-Eye, and Bamshogbo
ALFA NWN1 PC: Jacobim Foxmantle
ALFA NWN1 Dead PC: Jon Shieldjack

Huh?

I was convinced we tried to make full use of the skill entries we had, added stuff like movement skills, split lore into knowledges and dropped some NWN-only ones, just out of the top of my head :S.
The power of concealment lies in revelation.
