<<Daily Trumpet>> Construction of Military Defenses on the High Road South of Waterdeep

Post by Rick7475 »

Reporting near Daggerford, the latest news from the High Road north of the sprawling metropolis. Military engineers from the city of Waterdeep are constructing a stone tower where the Ardeep River crosses the High Road. This follows rumors of a massacre of Waterdeep Footguards near the area. When asked, the Engineer Officer named John Chard reported, "Well, there are some insurgents in the Ardeep forests to the east, so we have to protect the High Road travelers." He indicated that a dozen or so footguards would man the three story tower, complete with ballistas on the balcony and roof. When pressed for details about the insurgents, he replied, "Look, I am just an engineering officer, I build things or make them go boom." However this reporter managed to find a local ranger south of the walled fortress town, who had extensive knowledge of the forests. He, nor his wife or children, would give their names or location of their cabin that we would have published for everyone to know, but he did speculate on the dangers, "Well, there are many orcs in the hills and river ways, I have noticed some tribal posturing, so some of the tribes are on the move." I inquired as to how many different orc tribes were in the area, and he informed me, "Well, let's see, you got ghostly hand orcs, the sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads, but it is the River Orcs on the move, they are infiltrating the Ardeep River basin." I also asked about the strange dark cloaked figures spotted in the forests, who they were, and he said, "Really? The big dragon symbol on the back of their cloaks didn't give them away?" So there you have it folks, the military is building a defensive tower to resist the hordes of River Orcs and Dragon Cultists swarming the High Road. For more accurate on the spot reporting, listen for the town cryer.
