FACTIONS

Post by Burt_Reynoldz_Mustache »

Though I enjoy characters being independent, many adventurers know that the lone bear as mighty as he is, can not out-hunt the pack of dogs. While I do try to limit factions as to avoid a mob-war server...here are some of the groups in BG that are currently available.

Flaming Fists: Members 1,000-1,700
Volo wrote:In Baldur's Gate, the watch wears distinctive black helms with a vertical red stripe on either side, if you have problems. Not only are the members of the watch vigilant, enthusiastic, wise, and observant, but the Flaming Fist Mercenary Company, over a thousand strong, is based in the city. Every tenth person or so is a member or a watch agent (well, spy) of the Fist, skilled in battle and within a breath or two of numerous armed allies.
Membership: Members must have no recorded altercations with the law and must pass a tough physical, mental and situational evaluation by a board of Fist Members.

Knights of the Unicorn: Members 7-15
Forgotten Realms Adventures wrote:
The Knights of the Unicorn, a romantic, whimsical group of high-born adventurers who worship Lurue, the Unicorn, can also be found in Baldur's Gate, although they are more common across the Sword Coast North. Lurue is a beast cult deity, the CG queen of talking beasts and intelligent creatures, also known as "Silverymoon" after the city she is most connected with. Her followers are dedicated to helping the needy, underdogs, and dreamers, and rescuing all who need aid. .
Membership: Members must worship Lurue and dedicated to helping the weak and committing to good, no matter what it faces. Members will be trained in the Hall of the Unicorn which is still under construction in the city.

Third Circle Members 10-25
This faction consists of Knights of the Triad (Ilmater, Tyr, Torm) who went underground long ago do to politics, spying and subterfuge. The group vows itself to Law and Land, particularly that of fighting undead. The group is constantly attempting to limit the undead population but, are willing to aid in other endeavors as sanctioned by the Dukes of the City. It has recently become public that the Circle does still exist but, few can find their stronghold which is rumored to be magicly hidden.

"If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Third Circle"

Membership: The trials are difficult. First you must be able to locate a member. Then, only those who worship the Triad (or are of outstanding moral fiber) can ask for special request to join this elite society.

Contrivance Augurs Members:1-5
Volo's guide:

Halbazzer is a balding, white haired, gruff old man, now frail of health and stooped. He dwells in a modest, shuttered stone tower on Stormshore Street in Baldur's Gate, guarded by golems and ornamental wall displays of weapons that can animate to fight for him. The tower has a tiny shopfront that bears the signboard "Sorcerous Sundries". Inside you'll find a waiting room with a comfortable chair, a table and a bell. It summons Halbazzer, who sells potions of healing and casts spells for fees-If he is in the mood.

Halbazzer is very rich, and he invests behind the scenes in many Baldurian ventures. His usefulness has led the ruling Grand Dukes to place a discreet watch over his premises to aid him against thieves and unscrupulous interests from Amn, Calimshan and elsewhere who divest him of the secrets that have made his fortune: the spells of Halbazzer's devising that banish mildew and moisture. He refuses to sell these spells as scrolls or tutor others in their casting.

Halbazzer is also an expert in the use of the mending spell and is a familiar fixer of household items in Baldur's Gate. He has been known, when attacked, to hurl a mean meteor swarm, too!

Since Volo's Guide
Halbazzer Drin has continued his hobby (argued obsession) with golems and has even donated a "Steam Dragon" to the Hall of Wonders. His advancement in specialized golems has made him a valuable position within Baldur's Gate society; creating protective golems for the Dukes and high security areas. While most of his time is dedicated to his research on innovative spells and advanced golem creatures; he has recently taken time to take in a few Apprentices to help him assist in the protection of Baldur's Gate, which he has grown quite fond of.

Halbazzer's select few Contrivance Augurs(Device Prophets) are taught the philosophy and arcane studies of Halbazzer. Halbazzer's hope is for one of his Augur's to show great promise so that Halbazzer may teach him his secret spells and inventions; however he is yet to find a student talented enough to be deemed worthy. Halbazzer only takes in a few Augers at a time and has never been seen with more then five. He currently has one Apprentice (NPC elf located at the front desk of Sourcerous Sundries) however, is looking for new talent to help give him a hand protecting the city and teach.
Membership: Its no easy task. Halbazzer watches closely from his shop and only plucks the best candidates to come and join his staff. While in the shop, one is given hours of medial and tedious work for months, in an attempt to break the spirits of an apprentice. It is not until Halbazzer deems the candidate worthy that he starts his training with the member over a sleepless set of months (as Halbazzer is rumored to rarely sleep).
