Travel between servers

Post by dergon darkhelm »

I haven't even tried it yet, but I bet we're gonna need a placeholder thread to explain both the technical side and any guidelines........here it is :)

Anyone used the portal system yet? feel free to post about it.
PCs: NWN1: Trailyn "Wayfarer" Krast, Nashkel hayseed

Derg, when you portal you get a lot of instructions about how to proceed and the option to change your mind. Just gone from BG to TSM without a hitch. Only change to the old system is you have to wait 24RL hours to make a return journey (which also appears to be working).

Yes. It seems to be a very smooth and straight forward process compared to NWN1.

dev-integrated server portalling planned for 1.23 patch, though if it goes horribly wrong in beta that will change.
Built: TSM (nwn2) Shining Scroll and Map House (proof anyone can build!)

Why does it take 24RL hours between visits? what about cross server quests? What about going shopping for that special piece af armor? What about running out of statics on TSM and needing to farm on BG, while still making a lunch date at Rivermoot?

If it's something that important, I'm sure a DM will validate you.

Just so there are no misunderstandings, ElC was ironic 8).

Whether that matches or influences his behaviour is another matter... :D

There is also a setting on the portal itself (via the toolset) for portals that are supposed to represent adjacent servers (BG to Western Heartlands may be one example), which do not enforce a 24-hour cool-down. It's just a mechanism to slow globe-trotting antics for the future and help maintain some level of game continuity for the PCs on both servers.

I just attempted a crossing, it went fine, checked if BG was available, it said it was, but when i went to log in to it, it wasnt there. This was about 2 min ago, so is the server test actually being done, has anyone ever actually tried to cross when BG is down and recieved a no go?

Edit 3 min later
I have just noticed that the BG server wet down around 40 min ago, so i definatly recieved a green light to portal, when BG as down.
