Quantum of Solace

Post by ballonger »

So I saw it at the Cinema almost twelve hours ago. :D

I liked the movie "Finding Neverland", by the same director. He makes very pretty movies for sure. Very stylish. The new Bond-movie no exception.

I do feel however that the new Bond-movie is less dark and gritty and bad than the first with Daniel Craig. No doubt I was shaking from adrenaline at points during the movie, but I also found myself laughing inside after certain action sequences. Perhaps this is because the movie is more child friendly than the first.

I should add that I haven't read any of Ian Fleming's original stories about Bond, but I am quickly becoming more interested. Especially after the first movie with Daniel Craig. It felt real, and no more of that Inspector Gadget-crap they've been force feeding the audience for the last several years in the "old" Bond-franchise.

If you've seen Quantum of Solace, leave a note here and some thoughts on it. And of course no spoilers.

That's weird. It's always been we who've been backwater and never getting grand openings until after the rest of the world (especially the states) have already seen the movie. Not the other way around.

I thought it was good.

It felt better paced than the drawn-out Casino Royale. Action scenes were very similar - the jerky camera affairs typeified by the Bourne series. Seems like they are trying to emulate that success (and apparently succeeding). I still think the reboot is missing some of the key Bond elements - gadgets and humour primarily, but I like what they are trying to do with the character on a whole. The supporting cast was good in parts (Judi Dench as M) and failed to catch my interest in others (the female sidekick and the main villain, whose names I don't recall). The fact that they are maintaning an overarching plot appeals to me.

Overally worth watching.

I'm of the same opinion. Plus it didn't really seem like the plot was self-contained enough. If I hadn't already seen Casino Royale, I wouldn't have gotten as much out of it. It seems like they're going to have CR, QoS, and the next one be a direct trilogy of sorts.

Wait. There was a plot? I must have blinked at the wrong moment.

It was okay, I dont feel like it was a waste of my money. Call me backwater, but I miss the womenizer witty Bond. I really liked all the Bonds minus Timothy Dalton. Now it seem like Bond is Jason Borne.

Read the books and see the error of your ways. :P Casino Royale is the closest movie to its source material. Dalton tried to bring the "real" Bond to the movies and failed, but now they finally have with the rebooting. It makes me happy. I liked the old movies fine, but the old formula had grown stale and book Bond is a much more interesting character.

That's what I've been hearing too, that the new movies are truer to the original stories. That all that inspector gadget stuff and witty humour is something akin to Batman and Robin compared to the original Dark Knight stories, and the new Batman Begins and Dark Knight movies are equivalents to Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Really makes me wanna get my hands on the Bond-stories.

Quantum of inferior to Casino Royale was sufficiently entertaining.

Quantum of jumping camera every second in intro car-chase, mtv-generation style, jumps camera every second in intro car-chase, mtv-generation style. I find this displeasing and weep worthy.
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -- Richard Dawkins
