Oblivion: Shivering Isles
Oblivion: Shivering Isles
For anyone who bought this expansion, you should probably have a look here. Apart from the screen black outs and intermitant crashes you are probably experiencing along with the odd NPC bug, if you have been playing it for a while, you are also probably permanently affected by that bug, as I am in all of my saved games.
I also ran across the 200+ hour animation freeze bug, which they have been aware of for over a year now and don't seem interested in fixing, their tech support pointing me towards a 3rd party unsupported fix.
Again, another release with so many unbelieveably poor bugs. It's a pity because I really thought Shivering Isles was very well done otherwise.

Current PCs:

Again, as with Medieval 2, I can accept that any release is always going to have bugs, but the bugs present in this release is like they didn't even bother to test the bloody thing and considering what the bugs are with both games, I'd expect a lot faster fixes. Bethesda even denied the animation bug (for those that haven't experienced it, after ~250 (272 for me) hours of playing all secondary animations slow down incredibly to the point of freezing... that includes fires, spell effects and opening doors) even existed for the better part of a year, their "fix" being to suggest that the player flush their cache or some such rubbish, which did nothing.

Both companies do have a history of this sort of thing. If the threads are still there, go look at the known bugs list at the .org for Medieval (the first one) and Rome. They're enormous.Again, as with Medieval 2, I can accept that any release is always going to have bugs, but the bugs present in this release is like they didn't even bother to test the bloody thing and considering what the bugs are with both games, I'd expect a lot faster fixes.
Daggerfall and Morrowind...well, do I even need to say anything?
Caveat emptor, and all that.
I've played the original Medieval, RTW, Morrowind and Oblivion, and none of them had the completely game breaking bugs of either Medieval 2 or Shivering Isles. Sure, they had bugs and plenty of them, but none of those bugs were bad enough for me to think I couldn't play the game anymore until they patch it up (and both companies are very slow to patch).mxlm wrote:Both companies do have a history of this sort of thing. From what I've heard, yes it does. There is a beta patch for the PC out now. Just for this problem though, not for the multitude of others.CuriosityEngine wrote:ANyone know if this goes for the Xbox 360 version as well?

Sure. It's just that IMO, if you know the game's likely to be buggy, and you know the company will take a while to patch, why not wait 'til the patch is out before buying?I've played the original Medieval, RTW, Morrowind and Oblivion, and none of them had the completely game breaking bugs of either Medieval 2 or Shivering Isles. Even if they're not gamebreaking bugs. YMMV.
