Bardsongs: Part II: The Wisdom of Dwarves

Post by Aerthrin »

***************************

The shabby dwarf leaned forward in his seat a moment and stood up quickly... stumbling to the man attending his lute at the center table. With a groggy kind of look, he took the man full in the face and said:

"Yuh sing then do ye? Well den sing me a song... show us the wisdom of a whelp such as ye' so that we are all the better for it! That's what yer about eh? Then let us have yer words then boy... show us what truth a bard can offer!"

Grinning, the dwarf leaned back far... stumbling backwards in a half-hearted aim for his chair...

The young minstrel took up his lute.. and began...

"If it wisdom you wish.." stated the youth, "then here is mine..."

***************************

"The young,
They lead with word and chin
And fill themselves with pain

The old,
They lead with deed and arrow
Cautious with purpose plain

The wise,
They lead with resolve and blade
Focused and sincere

And dwarves my friends
A good hearted lot,
But ne'er go near their beer!"

-As sung by Orthis Bertram of Ordulin
