I've found the 3D map is more immersive than the world map OE gives us. Also, the scaling related oddities are not going to be a problem in my opinion as even a preliminary build looked really nice. Don't knock it until you've tried it, there is a mod on the DM FTP if you are interested in making a more informed observation. Given the exterior limitations for NWN2 this is the best idea I've seen for enhancing the roleplay and persistent world immersion factors. clicking on static world map is not immersive, and you can't really make enough wilderness maps like in NWN1 unless you are making a wilderness server, which most teams are not.

It's not the statics I object to. I mean, seriously, have you read my posts over the last year? It's the artificiality of dialog boxes popping up as you travel. Just set the encounter distance far enough off that you can AT away if you like.

That was just one idea of how to handle encounters, of many. Its not really intrinsic to the idea of the travel area.

What is the word on this purposed system. Is this what we are using for NWN2 intra-server travel?

It is up to each server team to decide if they are going to use it or the world map, etc. I'm not sure if any team is actually planning on doing so, perhaps TSV if it is still being built.
