Science has also done a lot of good. See this internet thing? Science. Antibiotics? Science. That roof over your head? Science. The paper your bible is printed on? Science. So our lovely knack for scientific ingenuity has done a hell of a lot of good things, as well.
Killthorne, Roktu, that's totally inane. We would still be up in the trees flinging crap at each other if it wasn't for athiest freethinking socities. . .
It's up for us athiests to show the sheeple the way!! You're the herd and we're the shepherds caring for the flock of stupid religious sheep. le. .oh boy, why does that sound familiar? I'm confused.

Not all churches. Some of them barely get by as is. While this would potentially destroy the mainstream religions it might actually splinter them off into various groups.
Hard to predict the total effects. This is obviously aimed at the huge for profit evangelical churches which are barely about religion at all, though the Catholic churches would get hit pretty hard too. Poor churches would end up being exempt due qualifying as non-profits, or not having any profits to tax. It's really a very good idea, and would substantially increase tax revenues, but of course such things will never happen in our lifetimes.

Okay, so you're not as insane as I had thought, good for you. Admit you're insane in an insane world and other ideologies (including yours) have a varyings degree of sociopathy you should move up to being perfect sensible (and possibly likeable.) Also do you have any thoughts of it increasing cult worship? Like you said its hard to predict the total effects but too me, I think the unforseen consequences are really, really, important. Call it what you will but things don't always go over as planned and maybe its time to deal in hypotheticals.

I don't see much of a connection. Poor churches would function as non-profits, large churches would hire tax attorneys and create shelters, the Catholic Church could even conceivably declare itself a foreign entity not subject to taxation. The main effect would be transparency. BTW, the primary reasoning behind doing it in the first place is that by law churches are forbidden to engage in political campaigning as part of their tax exemption, but they do it anyway. So basically I wouldn't even have to pass any laws, I would just enforce the existing ones.
I don't believe in organized religion at all. It's belief. It doesn't belong to be organized. It's abstract as thinking " I like cheese." Whether you follow Buddha, Jesus, Mickey Mouse or whatever... as long you're not affecting anyone else and living at peace with your faith, I don't see the harm at all.
And SERIOUSLY GUYS, the mentioning of the atom bombs is not a knock against science. For the last, final time.. I LOVE SCIENCE!!!! I've never have hated it. I just disagree with hypothesis being printed as fact in texts. You can say how stupid I am about that, but well, until you have proof, it's only a guess. And I figure that's pretty much how people that don't believe in any sort of higher power feel, eh? But anyways, I mention these bombs because that's what humanity is good for: creating weapons of mass destruction out of fear, loss, hatred.. etc. I'm sorry. I am not going to put any stock in a human race that doesn't know how to stop taking poison.
I know how evil, organized religion has been. The Catholics, the Lutherans, the various sects and faiths of different religions all over the world that have caused pain, death, suffering, and destruction. There's solid reason to dislike and mistrust them. Hey, I totally agree. It's why I'm fighting for what I believe in, because someone's gotta show all those people how it's really done.
Also, so many organized religions don't believe in layman faith. But that's me. I don't go about beating the Bible into people's foreheads, nor shout the coming of the end to everyone. You can call me whatever you damn well please in terms of faith, but I know what I am. And like I said before, that's not going to change.
I've studied all sides, from the christian fanatics to the passive "sheep" that don't even bother to acknowledge or understand just exactly what they are following. I don't care for any of that. I have a right as a spiritual individual to grow outside of that little building, out in the real world where I find my spirituality to be not something I preach to people, but rather something I do, in deed. I'm no perfect human being either, but I can atleast try, to do the right thing.
And if you think I do this all for my religion so I can go to Heaven, and not Hell, you're wrong. I don't know what will happen when I die. I don't make any assumptions about that.

Personally, I think one day Earth will end up like the game Alpha Centauri and we all will be a part of a faction/corporation/religious sect that will reach out to the stars and leave this planet behind once all its resources are gone.

Kinda like Eve? Huge ass corporations? Sector Bed Bath and Beyond? Planet Payless? Shell Oil planetary systems? Something tells me not to underestimate human ingenuity even in these 'Dark Ages of religious fearmongering and scientist burning.' Nasa has conceptualized theoretical forms of propulsion who is to say what our government is working on. Now as far as global warming. I don't know if it's real or not. Democrats think its man made and Republicans don't think it's man made and you got scientists in the middle on both sides yelling at both of them. I find it odd and ironic that people who want to try and understand it are being demonized for it by morons saying "Oh, its real! Get on board or else!!! or you're just fucking stupid! Planet killer!!11" and they, in turn put on concerts that are wasteful, creating garbage, and selling stupid shit at booths and credit card Kiosks. Making global warming, if real, look like nothing more than a marketing ploy and push for political dominance. But that's not suprising, democrats in my state turned a funeral of Paul Welstone into a fucking political rally. Disrespectful, distasteful, and completely immoral. Maybe its just me, but I find it odd and ironic that scientists are doing the fearmongering, oh well, at least they're not burning dissenters at the stake yet.
All I know is that alternative energy needs to be reached and nuclear power is the best way to go about it. 50s oriented fearmongering doesn't help any. The jobs supplied by nuclear reactors would promote education in that field and only increase its saftey.
I don't blame people for not voting but if you don't vote even less shit gets done. I happaned too not vote republicans into congress. Now look, 11% friggin percent. More corrupt politicians, more empty briefcases, and more of the same damn promises, year in, year out.
All the american people want is for someone to be honest and fair. Do as they say and not completely switch when they get political power.
