I really don't think it's a big deal, hollyfant...it's just that the question
was asked, and if one thinks about it objectively, it should be no surprise that some of us feel that an exotic language is not really the same thing as more commonly improved and acquired skills.
I sorted Lucifer's celestial language IG, and since it was in his background I didn't see it as an issue.
But if confronted with an exotic language and no RP or bio history for it, I would be inclined to ask for some RP.
It just makes sense to me that finding a ranger, druid, fighter, etc. trainer would be so easily done it doesn't justify expecting much RP support for training, while getting access to (and tutelage from) an extraplanar or speaker of some extremely rare language would.
It's just my opinion...for whatever that's worth (my mother thinks highly of my opinions
