Does that still work? I thought it was busted?

Anyway, welcome to ALFA :)

You do still need to fill in an application thingy found on the front page - unless, like Cynon suggested, you wish to go through our Open Application Server (OAS for short) - it should only take a ten or so minutes to fill out, and a few days to get a reply. Should be no problem for you!

Can I direct you towards this thread in particular. Just gauging interests of builders/dms towards particular areas come NWN2. Regarding the current NWN though, if you do wish to start building, pick a server and shoot one of their team and email! I'm sure they'd all love to have you aboard! I'd advise taking your time to decide though, prehaps pay the server a visit as a player for a few days, talk to some people on chat about it, make sure it's a place you'd enjoy working. Each server has a different enviornment, and you should make sure that it's right for you. No need to rush into things :)

I would enjoy doing that actually, although I don't want to put the cart before the horse. Membership -> community support -> feasibility study -> script. :)

Ideally though, this would be handled exclusively on the backend, meaning no IG scripts.

Alrighty. Will do. Thanks for the pointers. Any specific times best to hop on the OAS?

Great advice. I was hoping that would be an option. :)

Thanks.

Check the OAS forums for DM times.

Might find something you can work with. Good luck!

Welcome Cipher! I am sure you will like it here as so many of us do. You grow to hate and love this place as it consumes too much of your time but every now and then you get that extraordinary RP-experience that makes you think it is all worth it.

The forums are bad sometimes. Best advice is to not get involved because ALFAns have hard skin and will bite your head off if you are not careful. Most of the time the forums are good though.

As for getting involved in building I am sure a scripter will have no problem. That is generally what every team is lacking.

Again welcome aboard and hope to see you ingame.

PM me with any questions.

Oh, yeah! An aging script would be great! Make those elves think twice about hitting on Elias!

Err, uh...I mean it would make the game more realistic...yeah!

I think a number of people have expressed interest in that too. I'll look into it when I'm done with what I'm currently working on. I haven't lost sight of the full laundry list fwiw. :)

But how will the script run? Real-time or Game-time?

Real-time: Won't be noticeable (especially considering the coming switchover to NWN2), not worth the effort.

Game-time: People who only play infrequently (i.e., one regurlarly-scheduled game/week) will find their character's youth and health slipping away with very few memories to show for it. Will also mess up "plot time" (how much time has passed since last week? Ask the DM).

*cough*

I mean, a belated welcome to ALFA. :P

At least with aging scripts we'd have fewer of those filthy vermin....err...I mean humans around.

It would have to be game time to have any meaning at all. However, I don't see people generally agreeing to exactly how long is long enough to age from adult to middle years, much less until death.

An alternative would be to introduce the CONCEPT of age, but not necessarily track it. The implementation would be akin to how subraces are handled. This would at least allow players who want to play older or younger characters have that adjustment to stats.

The compromise would probably be to keep the rate of aging fairly slow and just let each player's preference, when selecting their age, be the deciding factor in how soon they cross an age threshold. If you wanted to be near immortal, you could just play an adult Elf or Dwarf. If you wanted to play a human who would reach his middle years within 6 months of playing, you might choose to start out at 30 years of age (or whatever the age would be based on the age rate).

However, the real truth that you've been unaware of up to this point is that Twiggy and I are secretly in league with one another to try and rid the ALFA cosmos of all pesky human scum and this was our grand plan!
