A slight annoyance
Hello.
So... I got a bone to pick at. I know I probably shouldn't but I have encountered this a few times now. I know people have their reasons, OOC or IC but...
Using stealth to hide from a player oocly, because you rather not RP with them at the time is ... extremely impolite for one, and metagaming on the second.
I've encountered aspects like this in other guises, even the simple tell of 'I am not here' has been used on me a couple of times. I feel it is also metagaming, as you are acting outside the normal actions of your character, and using the engine for personal convenience.
It's all quite unsettling to be subject to this. Honestly, if you ICly don't want to talk, just say 'hey, I'm doing a job at the moment so can't talk. Follow me there if you want, but I can't hang about.' Or something to that effect. You can even ICly say 'ignores and moves on' that way I know there's something IC going on with the situation. I hope this is not too much to ask.
Also please try to avoid being in two places at once... if I see your character, my default is usually to at least say hello and given it's rare to encounter people it's quite disappointing to be told 'not really here' (I actually haven't encountered this in a while but... it does crop up from time to time.)
Thanks for letting me have my say, again sorry. This isn't a rant, I just feel I had to say it.

Re: A slight annoyance
I... don't understand 95% of the above. Are you asking people to let you know upfront outright if they don't wish to interact with you/your PC? Are you entirely certain that is in fact the case, rather than them genuinely being busy/semi afk and thus unable to engage fully? I may get annoyed when someone goes AFK in the middle of intense RP with regular frequency, but I generally assume they have good reason to do so rather than claiming they're metagaming...
Or is it something else entirely... the post is rather vague and confusing.

Thanks for sharing OT. I've really enjoyed the past few sessions with you. Two sessions ago was probably my favorite one ever; hilarious.

Re: A slight annoyance
Thanks heegz, I really enjoyed it too. First time I got a point towards chaos which was so very rewarding.
I'll simplify it ith. We are told to treat NPCs as there even if not controlled by a DM. Likewise it's expected to treat PCs as if they are there too- (unless AFK that is) What I don't like is when people declare their surroundings as not there, by making their PC not there, and enforcing that self ruling by stealth or other mechanics. I guess it's like AFK auto pilot.
I'm open to the thought that there might be legitimate reasons for such things but it just strikes me as very odd.
I remember encountering this issue even when I DMed

Re: A slight annoyance
Usually when a person says "I am not here," they are speaking literally and mean that they've arrived in the location because of a bug. Most commonly, this is because they weren't returned to their saved location after a server reset (which is more common when the server is getting more build, like basically every day on MS these days). Folk are just trying to be polite by explaining, and they're just passing through the area to get back to where they were before the bug.
Yes, it's easy to assume that others are doing something weird because of some lack of politeness or some personality defect (most people do it to some degree, and most people are usually wrong). Surely you'll say "this is different!" but it's probably not, but most people do that too, and most people are wrong twice; we humans are really bad at this -- As a broad piece of advice, imagine cockup before conspiracy and your understanding of the world will be more accurate.

Once I am DMA this sort of behavior will be punished.

Conspiracy voice: if they are not there, why are they doing quests as if they are?Zelknolf wrote:Usually when a person says "I am not here," they are speaking literally and mean that they've arrived in the location because of a bug. Cockup voice: maybe they just got bored and did it not realising how it looks..
I suppose it's possible. You get my vote Heero.
Re: A slight annoyance
If you have record of a person claiming to be out-of-character while performing tasks with mechanical benefit, all available information (ideally logs and/or screenshots) should be forwarded to the PA (that is Causk right now) with the details of your concern. I'm around to dig up formal logs if the PA needs an assist gathering information in response to as much.

Re: A slight annoyance
As established with the rulings associated with the Boombrah flouncing, we will not do this. If you live in the European Union and wish to exercise your right to be forgotten, you must carry out this action with search providers. I am to understand, though, that you live in the US, so "lolno."Heero wrote:Delete my account for I can neither believe nor stomach this travesty of short falling in our rules.

Re: A slight annoyance
I feel for you OT, and I am pretty sure I understand what you are saying.
If someone is trying to sneak by anyone's PC for OOC reasons, they might have a good reason, and if spotted and called on it at that moment, they can most likely RP it immediately in some IC way to get out of it.
But I agree. There are many better ways to go about avoiding others, for what reason you would want to I don't know, but who knows the minds of men these days...
My example is the following which really irritated me:
Bu was chillin' as Bu usually does. Nor do I give a shit if anyone stops to chat. But 99% usually do have a seat to share the campfires... well one currently played PC walked straight by, and Bu actually talked to him, with zero response. I didn't care (it happens
), but i asked someone else in a tell about it, and I was told "Yea that PC takes advantage of the 'patrol' option." or something??!
I assume now we can make our PCs "automatically walk around" without even watching? How the hell is this legal? Now I got no proof, and I don't even know how to do it myself, nor would i EVER do it anyway... but since we get RP/XP and the RP-increment dings are based on actual speech or tells PCs make or "location" changes, wouldn't this be very dangerous in setting your PC on a "safe" patrol.... and then going to sleep for 8 hours as your PC wanders around in circles soaking up RP/XP? or am I wrong?
sorry to go off on a tangent not entirely on topic... but it was slightly related in that if people are making their PCs wander aimlessly on "patrols", and they are not even trying to RP, or god forbid not even WATCHING, and they pass by PCs that are actually playing... this would be very strange to the RPers watching an entirely unresponsive PC walk by...then again... then again.... duuuuh.

Re: A slight annoyance
Yeah, that specific behavior ('Greetings friend!' *walks by without even looking up while using CE map*) is... rather off-putting, especially when done repeatedly by the same person; I've been on the receiving end of it as well.
If I were DMing and observed this behavior... I would have gently helped them break this habit....
perhaps by spawning a pack of hill giants directly in the path of the PC
btw, I too have my small list of 'slight (and not so slight) annoyances' that have been cropping up and sapping my RP motivation recently. I'll refrain from pointing out specifics for now but I'd like to ask everyone that's currently active, let's pick things up a notch for the sake of everyone's enjoyment. Just because numbers are lower doesn't mean anything and everything goes.
