I just noticed that when putting points into Speak Language, the list was awfully limited and small ( looked as if it were based on Region only?). Is there anyway to fix that somehow, so perhaps my language nut of a PC can pick up more than orc, giant, abyssal and halfling?
Thanks!

Yes, you only get to take your regional languages without an IC teacher. If you get an IC teacher you should have no problem finding a DM to give you the token for whatever language another character is teaching you. That easy, just get a teacher and when you get to the language selection screen you just close it without selecting one and a DM can give it to you later

+1..I myself havce played Chars with IC reasons to learn languages not initially offered. If you can not find a friendly Char that knows the language..have a DM find you a teacher..RP it whether with a PC or NPC and then..when you have learned it (leveled after rp) it is added to your list
I'm pretty sure I wrote up an explanation of the process/logic somewhere, but I'll summarize it again here. In PnP you can basically take any language the DM says is OK, but given that most of our time in ALFA is un-DM'ed, I attempted to make something that allows "familiar" languages to be selectable by a given PC, and allows for uniqueness between PCs in terms of language sets.
Presently, the languages available for automatic selection when investing in Speak Language on levelup are based on a summation of the following:
1. Bonus Languages for your PC's "background region" as selected during character creation or 1.23 skills adaption.
2. Bonus Languages for your PC's (sub)race, class, and in some cases, diety (followers of dieties with elemental domains should have the corresponding elemental language available, rangers should have options to correspond with chosen enemies, etc)
3. Bonus and Automatic languages for the region corresponding to the server on which the PC is leveling up. (languages common to one's "Present location")
Some of the scripting framework is in place for PCs to "teach" known languages to each other (add language "X" to the list of selectable ones on levelup), or to have the same effect from books or other items. This is a project that needs finishing/testing before it goes into circulation, but should provide some good basis for RP.
DMs can also grant languages not on the list as appropriate, though care needs to be taken to make sure PCs aren't getting "extra" languages without the (significant) skill point investment.
Well I've been studying draconic with the hopes of learning it. Wasn't really aware that I needed a teacher per se, as I've been scouring the languages section of the Vault. Figured it was a common enough exotic to learn it ( since all wizards have access, it seems). That and gnomish.
Is there any way to remove languages and replace them?

Yes, a DM can remove your DMFI tool and have you relog, this wipes your language knowledge and allows re-selection. You can double-select a known language to account for a special DM-granted language after you're done with the selection window.
*Takes out a card with a foil dragon on it in profile and show's it to Killy.*
I'll trade you gnomish for draconic. *she looks at Killy's card showing a diminutive fellow with an aviator hat and goggles* Raaaaaaar... *makes dragon noises to show how cool the card she has is*
