Ok, after multiple years of absence, I've been jonesing for a real roleplaying fix, so I've tried to come back. Of course, me being me, I've run into a multitude of problems:
1) I have NWN2, MOTB, and SOZehir. In all 3 cases the CD key has not worked. I got tech support at Atari to get me a usable one for NWN2, and I'm waiting on seeing what will happen with the two expansions. So in the meantime, I only have NWN2 loaded up. Am I unable to play with just this?
2) When I try to update past version 1.00.768, it tells me that the game is completely updated, and there are no more updates available. Of course, this is blatantly wrong. Anyone run into this as well? Is there a way to manually update it, or am I pretty much stuck at version 1?
Let me know, I look forward to getting back into somewhat of the swing of things...

I'll leave someone else to help you out (as they'll most likely do a better job than I), but...
Welcome back, Relic!

Thanks Rotku, I appreciate that. And I think I've figured out my problem, at least with the updater. The CD key tht tech support gave me seems to make the game think it's Storm of Zehir, when it's actually just the original NWN2, so it's causing all sorts of errors, so I may be a ways off from getting back in, but I will try to make it by this time next week.

- Alas, yes you'll be unable to play. Both MotB andSoZ are required.
- Not me. Maybe your firewall is blocking?
Welcome back soon.

First thing to do is to find the text file that stores your CDKeys.
In a Vista case, this may be:
C:Program files (x86)AtariNeverwinter Nights 2nwncdkey.ini
XP tends to put it at:
C:Program filesAtariNeverwinter Nights 2nwncdkey.ini
Open that file up in notepad. Should see something like:
Make sure that all three are unique, and that the correct key is in the correct position. I have heard that some of the direct-download and/or bundled versions of NWN2 and expansions have problems with putting the keys in the wrong order during a normal install, though I haven't experienced this personally. So long as NWN2 is not running, you should be able to cut/paste/edit your CDKey file to correct it, then re-open NWN2 and attempt the patching process anew.
I do recommend keeping a backup of your original nwncdkey.ini file though, if you're going to play around with it.
If you like, you can click on the "IRC Chat" option on the right of these forums to be connected to a text-based chat application, if I'm around the keyboard, I can try to help walk you through the process there.
Here's hoping you're able to get things sorted out quickly and get to that RP fix you've been craving! Please let me know if clarification is needed.

Re: The problem is between the PC and the chair
Well, the problem is actually somewhere between my PC and the CD Keys, I am installing and updating the game on my laptop, with no problems whatsoever, so maybe I'll try to cheat my PC with the correct CD keys and see how that goes, I just wish I could install it without putting those in, but require you to enter them before playing...bah humbug.
and Regas, good to see you still around, I will have to look you up my friend, the rogues highway may soon bring me your way.

You should be able to print out or or open the cdkey file on your laptop, and use those keys to enter during the NWN2 install on your desktop to get it to finish installing.Relic wrote: so maybe I'll try to cheat my PC with the correct CD keys and see how that goes, I just wish I could install it without putting those in, but require you to enter them before playing...
Thereafter, you can trade cdkey files around if you get a second set of keys you want to use without reinstalling by swapping and/or renaming those files.
