Have you tried reinstalling? What exactly is the error message, if any? At what point does failure occur?

I had the same problem but fixed it by turning on UAC function. I turned UAC because it is annoying as hell. When I turned it back on I was able to install and run NWN2.

I still have trouble with the game crashing though. It has now come to a point where I can't progress further in the campaign due to a crash that occurs everytime I try to exit the Sunken Flagon (is that the right name?). I don't know if it has to do with VISTA but I wouldn't be surprised.

It's one of the bugs introduced by the last update, and will hopefully be fixed by the next one.

Thanks everyone. What is the UAC function?

When I try to run the game by clicking on the CD icon it says: "Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit". Does that make sense to anyone?

SecuROM :wall:

Congratulations. Your patronage of the company now known as Atari has earned you the right to be treated like a thief.

That error is caused by the DRM, and there's no simple cure. Try shutting down programs that might delay access to the DVD, like antivirus programs. Or clean the disk. Or firebomb Atari. In fact, try that first.

Here's the official info:

I can tell you a hundred and one ways to fix the toolset if it's not working in Vista. You don't want to just not play NWN2 and spend all your spare time int he toolset, do ya?

Thanks for the info!
What is the UAC function?
It may be called something else in english. UAC is what it is called in swedish anyway. It is activated/deactivated in the security center in the control panel. I think that UAC is an abreviation of User Account Control. Perhaps someone running Vista in english can confirm. It sounds like your problem is different though.
