Hallo - I am also a new one :)

Post by Japan001 »

Hi, I am now also a new member in a Land far away. - I am from Germany and 27 years old. For about ten years I am playing role play games mainly the good old p&p. :) My favorite ones are AD&D, i have never played D&D 3rd Edition, I refused and told my group that we should stay at the 2nd one, but the reason was we had now all 2nd Editionn books and so it would be mad to buy new ones. And now I am playing Shadowrun. Shadowrun becomes my fav role play atm. I am playing SR since about 7 or 8 years. Atm we are playing SR 3.01d - d stand for germany - cause the german publisher has edit always something in the rules and so on. I am stuying political science and history and have published at the moment two soon three research papers at the EPU (European University Center for Peace Studies). I am sure it will be a pleasure to play with you.

But it can take some time cause in University we are allowed to download maximum 400 mb from extern a day. and with the 2gb it can take some time. I am downloading atm but i have the bad feeling that the programm has started at the beginning.

Welcome to the fold! Have fun and be fun, and good luck with your second character! :fencing:

(By the way, do we still have a "send out a CD with the HAKs" program, people? And would there be any point in it, what with constantly changing PWC?)

Hey man!
Welcome to ALFA 8)
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -- Richard Dawkins

It could help people with problems to download big chunks of data getting started. Changes are usually not that big deal if you keep it up to date. And even if we don't have an official program, I doubt anyone will scream obscenities if some kind soul decides to send a DVD to a new member.

That system died a long time ago. If someone wants to get it up and running again, however, I can tell you it isn´t much work to organise. Just involves finding some volunteers (which is the hardest part).

Welcome aboard though, Japan :)

I can do this, provided it's still needed. Give me a day or two, and I'll need to know what files exactly should be on it.
Where do we list the lot of them? I use WorldGate myself, so I'm a bit clueless here.

The initial setup is the long stage; once you have the haks and PWC(s), the individual changes should be pretty minor. So long as you can run Worldgate to only pull down the changed bits, you should be fine.

So, I wouldn't worry about your bandwidth limitations keeping you from participating in ALFA generally, they'll just be an occasional bother when a new server comes online and you need to add a whole new PWC.

Have you already gotten and configured Worldgate to keep your haks up to date?

(also, welcome to ALFA! Let me know if I can be any help via #alandfaraway or #alfa-tsm)

Welcome!
And don't believe all this stuff about the second character. I am still playing the first.

"Then I am glad once again that you are on my side."
"They've often said that too."
