PR Head Position Available

Hey all, as you may or may not be aware, I've temporarily taken on the PR Head role, but RL has me tied up, and I've not been able to devote hardly any time to the job. I need to take a step back, so I'm looking for someone with the time to dedicate to promoting the ALFA community.

ALFA PR is responsible for informing potential players about who we are and what we're about. ALFA PR is about taking the hard work of the infrastructure team and using the website and forums as well as various external resources to present our message in a clear, consistent and positive fashion.

As you can tell, the PR department has a lot of responsibility. It's one of the most important offices in ALFA since it's responsible for bringing in the talent and new faces we need in order to make this community even better.

Also, the PR Head is one of the fortunate few who is allowed to vote in admin elections, so if you take on this responsibility, you'll also be given a voice in how ALFA is run.

If you're interested, please post or contact myself and/or paazin. And don't worry, you won't be starting fresh. There's been a lot of work done by a lot of smart people, and we've been keeping track of it using a third-party website. Also, I plan to stick around, because I love ALFA PR, but sadly I'm just too busy with other stuff, so I can answer questions and help out when/if I have time.

Basically, what we really need is someone with some spare time, dedication to the community (not his/her own ego), and the desire to see our community grow! We're doing some great things here on every level, and there are lots of gamers out there who need to know.

It's not an admin position, it's staff head and I'm almost positive it has about the same voting privilegies as you do as a DM. No Dark Lord powers, sorry.

My main goal would be to get us a better presence on NWConnections for both platforms, and both OAS's.

If given an greater degree of voting rights than a standard ADM, It should also be known that I support...

Allowing DMs to grant a "campaign only" player whatever starting level they deem fit with appropriate equipment for the level

Allowing DMs to play/DM on the same server. (I'm not an avid supporter but I don't disagree with it.)

Allowing players to have multiple PCs. (I support allowing a player 1 "persistent world" PC and as many campaign players as they want...obviously in different campaigns)

Doing this for just voting rights and personal agenda's would be a really selfish thing to do... so I am willing to take the position without voting rights.

Obviously this is all subject to the LA and Senor T's choices...I just wanted to be "above board" with my intentions and the other possible impacts it would have.

If you don't think I would be good for the position please feel free to voice that opinion...the PR Staff Head does have a huge responsibility in representing the community and should not be filled just because its empty and no one else has volunteered...

We could use to do is to blanket every possible outlet with alfa PR in a big push aimed at getting moderate to heavy Role Players into alfa to keep it alive.

To get People in:
1. Blanket the vault the nwn2 forums nwconnections and anywhere else that can be covered anouncing the temporary streamlined process.
2. Release some custom content to gain positive responce and hopefully entice people to come and take a look.
3. Get a temporary stream lined application process agreed upon and in place with turn around time of less than a day on written apps and maybe one session Open application trial.

To keep people in:

1. Get a second live server up
2. Get DMs that want to DM for those two servers

Once you have all those things you have a means of getting people in and keeping their attention people that sooner or latter will start to take on other rolls and build and add vitality to the project. We seem to start to be entering a bit of a cycle where there arent enough people to sustain the volunteer work that needs to be done to maintain the project and need to make an investment now to keep things going in the future.

If chosen, I would first work with Zicada and Demson on the application process... they are already doing a ton of good stuff in that regards...Once that stuff is polished up and ready to go, I would formulate a plan for a big PR Push into all the avenues we have.

Create guilds on the bioware site, server accounts for NWConnections, collect a list of content we are willing to post on the vault, even NWConnections has a section to post content.

They had a Realms project where they wanted people to post blank areas of different game worlds so people could download them for use in their own campaigns...

But first, you are right, we need to clean up the house before we go inviting people to the party.

I briefly attended a DM picnic held by Sojourney. They gave out party favors...DM tools that were tag based and pretty cool to include a vanishing widget that allows you to be invisible even when you have clicked "appear" on the console which is good for some situations like using the naming fairy ect...

When I logged out there was close to a dozen DMs from all over just BSing about things.

(on a side note, I logged out because my wife set down a positive pregnant pee stick on my desk! ... it was a pretty dramatic exit... lol )

I will be attending the next meeting as well it looked fun and informative, oh and ...I didn't save my avatar with the widgets... =(

We could do something like this using our OAS servers. But I would want to make them more fun and maybe player based...since SoJourney has cornered the market on the DM event.

Why do we have them sitting empty all the time? No DM coverage, yes, but surely we can invest a bit of time and put in a bunch of solo / static content to make them FUN, addicting even. If we can get people playing on the servers just because its fun we have a better chance of logging in as DMs and finding players to run a mentor game for.

One of my biggest peaves with ALFA is this notion that we RP the right way...

we are better because we "close doors" and aren't "stupid" enough to emote *thinks about slapping the innkeeper* ... we do things differently and the game works better when we are all on the same page sure, but we aren't right we are just different.

Seeing as I haven't heard anything from the PR head, or the LA I am assuming that they are looking for a different sort of member to head this up....We do need a PR head for shizzle, someone else please consider volunteering...please!

I dont DM or have those DM contacts NJ has it should be noted. I also dont have a big ex-ALFA connection to the NWN community.

I would be focussed on getting our house in order before going anywhere external. I think our house is still a bit messy both in terms of product, but also in terms of process/policy. This might mean i'm spilling into other staff/admins domain...but that's just the way things have to be.

BArts ideas below are good, but need to get the 'keep people in' stuff sorted out before you go looking for them. Not to mention the 'way in' made as good as possble (unless it already is).

Anyway, i can help...but won't be sad if you pick Nalo who i think has boundless enthusiasm and will for the job and alfa.

If you have good ideas how to improve the game or ALFA as a community, I know for a fact that the inboxes of most Admins and Staff Heads are open for suggestions and criticism. Please don't hold back if there's a good idea - I can assure you your voice doesn't carry any less weight now, and that good ideas are considered based on their merits.
