Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing.

Not if the thread in question serves to amuse the corps of moderators. 8)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.

Yeah... when I heard on the radio this morning that the panel found her to have abused her power, I really wondered whether in the american climate of hyperpartisanship for 80% or so of the electorate, whether it matters at all.

The democrats like Mulu apparently knew all along and would find good reasons why she was guilty even if the panel came to a different conclusion, and the reps like Dan will now go ahead and point out how it was the Legislative Council or media-spin or whatever.

Really... does truth matter? Is there even truth in something like this? More and more, it looks like it's all a matter of opinion and wearing red or blue. Man, sometimes I'm tempted to bet you people would still debate if Obama spat in McCain's face on stage, or vice versa :?.

It's not like the Americans are the only ones with scandals who they still support - some might remember that thing with the CDU and Chancellor Kohl some years back. :?
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

You mean the so-so muddy business long after he was chancellor? Meh.

A better example would have been Franz Josef Strauß... that guy got away with almost everything and came back on top. But that was in bavaria ;).

And I never claimed americans were the only ones, but it is painfully obvious how you guys strive to be the "best" at everything, eh? Exacerbated by the acidic hyperpartisanship of only two real choices, which of course works psychologically in quite a bad way.

That said, I'm the first to admit that people are at least 70% stupid no matter which country you look at it. Stupidity and ignorance are among the reassuring definite staples of humanity.
