BlizzPlanet and Diablo3.com countdown

Here is what *could* be one of the biggest news to come for Blizzard fans, BlizzPlanet (known to have a tight relationship with Blizzard) and Diablo3.com are both displaying a countdown with twelve days left on it, so the *fateful day* is May 1st.

What's going to happen in 12 days? There are several theories, one of them being the acquisition of Diablo3.com domain name by Blizzard, but we will know for sure on May 1st. Knowing BlizzPlanet, we seriously doubt it's an hoax.

I sincerely hope that D3 is not the "Top Secret" game they have been working on for a few years now.

Because whatever it is, it's an MMO. And I do not want a MMO for Diablo. Id much rather see something original from the company.

I will only accept that as the next MMO if it is something along the lines of
-Diablo 3: Hell on Earth- and resembles highly the story of Hellgate London (which by the way was made by a portion of the Diablo team that no longer work for blizz)

They already have WoW. I don't see why they would go for another MMO with a similar theme.

Then again, the Diablo lore is allot more dark and medieval than the Warhammer rip-off Warcraft. It's less of a fairytale world with no elves and dwarves and such. It's much more medieval and gothic. So who knows, maybe they're releasing a competitor for the brutal Age of Conan?

I always figured Guild Wars as a successor to the Diablo series, since it has some of the Diablo II designers and developers. It's not a Blizzard production though. It will be silly of them not to continue with such a popular brand and product.

They've been working on D3 for a long time. I lost my inside man at Blizzard a years ago when they went off to make Flagship Studios, but at least at that time it wasn't a MMO.

what about Star Craft 2? I could care less about D3 after how long they whored out D2X (how many patchs? how many hammerdin's one day, Pyromages the next for a million, trillion Blood-Runs or meph runs (arguably the most raped monsters in the history of Blizzard products)

WoW is just another version of Diablo, money wise. Wow is making crack whores outta Blizzy to the point that D3 and SC2 was a JOKE to them. Hand over fist in cash.

meh! i'll stick to DDO's gritty murky sewers and sands and forests to WoW's obsence use of girly colors...

...... maybe. I still think SC2 should be the focus for thier next effort, Not D3....

Uh, what about it? It'll hopefully be out at the end of this year, though knowing Blizzard I wouldn't bet on it. Looks pretty sweet too, I loves the Thor.

Why? All MMOs are are diablo on a grander scale. WoW could have easily have been a diablo MMO, but they decided to tell a different story instead. WoW is very close to classic diablo gameplay.
I will only accept that as the next MMO if it is something along the lines of
-Diablo 3: Hell on Earth- and resembles highly the story of Hellgate London (which by the way was made by a portion of the Diablo team that no longer work for blizz)
Might sort of get your wish. Whenever rumors about diablo 3 have come out over the years, the story of the game has always been hell invading heaven and the conflict spilling over into the mortal world (in a further breach of both sides pledge to keep the conflict out of sight of human eyes)

Me? Im very skeptical that Blizzard would make a major game announcement on an unofficial site.

So was the unconfirmed rumor that Blizzard North was shut down (for fucking the game up) and development brought in house true then?

Not sure about shutting Blizzard North down, but they did throw out the entire game and redo it. The concept was good--since the Worldstone was destroyed, Sanctuary, heaven, and hell are now all the same thing, instead of being separated. But the game wasn't very good. They did the same thing with D2 though.

Front page confirmation that the announcement is neither Diablo 3 nor a diablo related novel.

Ok, a bit more speculation.

Last week, Xfire briefly had mention on their site that Blizzard would be announcing a new game at their World Wide Invitational at the end of this month. This was very quickly pulled from the site.

Currently, if you try and visit the following address: http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx ... d3-general you get an error stating that the battle.net forums are currently down. If you go to the main list for forums, all the others are working. Additionally, if you change the forum name to anything else that doesn't exist you are redirected to the main forum list.

There are also splash screens when trying to visit most main Blizzard sites (at the very least Blizzard.com and battle.net have them), with much speculation over what it could be. Considering the only time Blizzard use splash screens on their main sites is in the days leading up to a new game announcement, i do not believe it could be WoW expansion or SC2 related, since both games are already announced.

Lastly, Rob Pardo gave a keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference in Paris a few days ago, he was asked to comment on the rumors that a new game announcement was going to be Diablo 3, in response he said this:
"So you want me to announce the game before our announcement?" he said. "No offense, but I think there's like 300 people here, and I'll be ripped apart by 8000 people there [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it - but it's going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement."
The Blizzard World Wide Invitational starts on Saturday. Time will tell.

Edit: The 2 main theories is that the splash images either a) depict cracking ice that will eventually reveal Arthas or b) depict a decaying Worldstone that will eventually reveal Diablo.
