Ammunitions

Post by Sintaqx »

In visiting the fletcher at Rauvinwatch I noticed that the elemental damage ammunition (+1 acid, colf, or fire dmg) is now sitting at 101gp each, or 1098gp per 99. A bit excessive I would think. I've not logged in since the last minor update, though, so I don't know if this has changed.

IT would be nice to see a bowyer/fletcher in Quaervarr with silvered ammunition, especially considering the history that town has with shapechangers. :)

1098 gp for 99 is actually 11 gp each. This is, as best Curmudgeon and I could tell, correct pricing by Standards. I believe Alchemical Silver ammunition would sell for 2 gp per arrow/bolt/stone, though the logistics of getting it to do so in a merchant may be complex indeed.

11gp... I can do math, really. :)

I had tried purchasing just a few arrows (20), but as I didn't have that much cash I couldn't purchase any, no box to adjust quantity appeared.

In testing before with DM avatars, we were able to buy smaller stack with the slider, and they were priced appropriately. From the sounds of it, it may be that the slider only shows up if you have more than the full stack price, which is definitely a problem.

Unfortunately, it will likely mean another several rounds of adjustments and testing for these merchants, as the values displayed in the toolset are not at all indicative of how the items will be priced in-game (the elemental arrow stacks, for example, show a baseprice of something like 27,000 in the toolset, and needed "extra cost = 2" set, in order to price as 1098 gp for 99 in-game.) If there is a simple hidden formula to how the engine prices ammunition once it's ingame, like the baseprice x 2, + extra cost of weapons, or the baseprice / 2, + extra cost for potions, I haven't been able to figure it out.

So- expect to see smaller stacks for sale in-game eventually, but don't expect them very soon.

I'll test with an avatar whose purse isn't quite so full next time.

Lesser quantity stacks are a possiblility I can look into - would 10 of a given type work?

I can take a look at Alchemical Silver ammo next time I'm in the toolset - I believe I can get the pricing pretty close, but again will need some time to test. As AL indicated, magical ammo quantity pricing in the Toolset is a bit arcane at best.

A silvered weapon merchant is planned for Quaervar, but it is down on the list after 4 temples (Bane, Kelemvor, Helm, and Everdusk) are added, over 100 religious items are added, at least 4 more quests are added, 3 quests fixed, a Forst Hill glacier area is added, the entire town of Auvandell (which is now exterior completed) is added, ........and more stuff I can't remember :)

Plus I am DM'ing a session tomorrow.

Slacker ;) You all do an incredible job.

I tested the fletcher and was able to buy arrows one at a time for 11gp each. No slider appeared, though when purchasing the MW arrows it did.

The pricing seems horribly steep considering once we fire an arrow/bolt/whatever it is gone for good. It might work in PnP where you can retrieve even some of your arrows, but without those mechanisms, we might as well not even make them available to players since nobody (within reason) will be able to actually buy them.

Considering that a stack of 50 +1 equivalent arrows/bolts/stones in PnP goes for over 2000 gp and that pg 221 states unambiguously that magic ammunition that hits is destroyed and that ammunition that misses has a 50% chance of being destroyed, I would think that around 1000 gp for 99 +1 elemtal damage arrows is only moderately expensive and not horribly steep.

In terms of PnP quivalents anyway.

If you don't have enough cash to buy a full stack of ammo, you can still purchase singles by right-clicking on the item in the store display and clicking OK in the popup window that tells you you can't afford 99 of the item. That is, if you can afford the single-piece price.

I can make 10-piece stacks of ammo, but that will add to the number of choices you have to scroll through in a shop.

Tested Alchemical Silver arrows in a test shop today, and these will be fairly easy to make.

I never actually tested, but if we can really use a slider to see how many arrows we can buy and the price reflects this accurately (i.e. no "even though you decided to buy only 10 arrows you're still paying for the whole 100" business), is there a real to spend time in the toolset making smaller stacks?

What he said! My toon prefers throwing axes to bows to enable his brawn to play into the equation, and I've seen nothing but regular or MW throwing axes. Elemental throwing axes would also be nice.
<paazin> Elves I bet are kinda fun to play.
<BH|werksux> I prefer the trumpet or clarinet
