Tieflings

Hardly, I still know of a few PC's who got away with murder more than once....they're still around and about. Who knows, I could be one of the lucky few to pull it off.

<Castano>: danielnm - can you blame them?
<danielmn>: Yes,
<danielmn>: Easily.

That doesn't make sense.
WOTC employee #1 "Hey guys, DnD isn't fun enough let's inject a little moar 'kamehameha!' in it."
WOTC employee #2 "How about we make tieflings a mainstream race and they can shoot mass edritch blasts and shit! We'll demote the gnome into a little vicious dungeon dweller. Dude a Tiefer drow combo party would be able to kill loads of gnomes how l33t is that?"

Danielm, you could also get priest levels with some anti-outsider turning abilities!
But i agree with the potato avatared Helios above. It would be plain weird to remove gnomes altogether. Deep gnomes i could understand though, they're completely out there setting wise. Unless you have a full group and dm going nuts for deep gnomes, they're perhaps the rarest living thing to be seen and spoken with, especially considering their 2 most likely pc encounter is a drow or a duergar.
Not only that, but...ability wise they are in their own league too, and it's very hard for a dm to mix with other races due to the +3 ECL and their inevitably abyssimal hps: either npcs would single shot the gnome or actually never hit it. You end up with a totally binary character. That said, unlike drows, their abilities makes for extremely survivable characters IF they opt to run from every battle and never take any risk...
But for the other gnomes...What's the problem? They're quite cool for comic relief characters...or you can play the "dwarf ally" with seriousness and all, and most gnomes societies can typically get along with others standard pc races, they're not manticores or zombies. Even deep gnomes don't need to be restricted altogether...the compatibility problem i mentionned above will do the filtering by itself, if someone has the guts to play a deep gnome on the surface, then so be it.

Humans and Halflings are the most wide spread races in the FR crystal sphere. Elves are second since some have returned to the mainland. Third would be dwarves since the thunderblessing. In last place would be the gnomes since their communities are rare except for Lantan.
I count the genetic offshoots and half-breeds even rarer than those listed above except for drow elves.
I think the FR setting has always been about the rise of human dominance and the other races ability to adapt to their expanse.
Too me it doesn't make sense to include the half-breeds and genetic offshoots of those popular races in the standard racial selection let alone exclude gnomes and include tieflings.
Back in 2nd edition races were tolkienesque(sp) now it seems like they wish to distinguish themselves from it and appeal to a younger demographic.

PD is a figment of your fevered imagination.JaydeMoon wrote:Who the hell are you and what have you done with PD?
PD only allows you to see what he wants you too see.
Now do you have anything to contribute to this thread about gnomes and tieflings?

Indeed, indeed, indeed. Just as dwarves are the traditional comic relief of elves and humans, gnomes are the comic relief of the drow. I will miss them. My drift disc just won't be the same in 4.0 without its gnome-beard seat covers. Alas.

NWN2: Layla (aka Aliyah, Amira, Snake and others) and Vellya

Wouldn't orcs and goblinoids outnumber most of the pc playable races with the possible exception of man? Yeah they aren't as civilized as the ones you've mentionned, but they are certainly is a lot of them.Helios wrote:Humans and Halflings are the most wide spread races in the FR crystal sphere. Half-breeds don't appeal to kids only, they offer something for those who want to go outside of the traditional tolkien quartet (dwarf, elf human, hobbit/hin), and that's probably why people wanted to include drow elves at a point too (in addition to the thrice-cursed Driznotz, but hey, we do owe that chap something for drows popularity and lore developpement).
Perhaps we actually need to get a Trilogy of the Tiefling going...
Again a question for those who know more about the FRs...
Magic Wiki says this about tieflings in the FRs:
Tieflings in the Forgotten Realms
source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiefling
In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, both tieflings and aasimar are more common than in other settings. Tieflings even have elven and orc counterparts (Fey'ri and Tanarruk, respectively). In the 3rd Edition of Dungeons and Dragons, less common varieties of the tiefling were introduced, including a dwarven counterpart, the Maeluth and a halfling counterpart, the Wispling.
more common? yeah ok...but is there anything about where they actually hang out? I'd guess cities and stuff. The Aasimar page is much more specific about where they are most common.

FR is a setting of shallow cliches as interpreted by a rampaging pervert, so they're in the brothels, the bath houses, the red light districts, and the slave markets.Souvarine wrote:more common? yeah ok...but is there anything about where they actually hang out?
... maybe not the bath houses. That's where the lawful good perverts go. (yay Greenwood!)
