Edit: Should this be locked down? It ran out of lulz unless someone is willing to post something about american foreign policy, american policy, and/or religion, and/or lack thereof.

I wonder what would happen if you did a poll in US prisons to find out what religion the inmates are.
Accordign to Vaelahr theory, the majority would be atheist, since shucks, without belief in god whats to stop you from being evil?
I would put money on the majority of folk in prison *not* claiming to be atheist, but it would be interesting to find out...

That study's been done, actually. The rate of Christian inmates is about the same as the general population, about 85%. Non-religious are vastly underrepresented, accounting for 10% of the general population but only 0.2% of the prison population.Mayhem wrote:I wonder what would happen if you did a poll in US prisons to find out what religion the inmates are.

Oh come on, everybody knows Jesus is in prison. That's where people keep finding him anyway....
How nutjob do you have to be to think Nazi's were atheists anyway? Granted Hitler's version of Christianity was a bit off from traditional sects, but then again so were Martin Luther and Joseph Smith in their day. Criticizing the Catholic Church hardly makes Hitler an atheist. It makes him a Protestant. Other Nazis were Volkist, but Volkism (or whatever it's properly called) absolutely rejects atheism.

I'll grant you Hitler was against traditional organized Christianity, but only because he wanted absolute power. The church was technically a competitor for the hearts and minds of the German people.wiki wrote:On taking power, Hitler banned freethought organizations and launched an “anti-godless” movement. So, more or less, he was a secular leader using religion as an excuse. (In moar ways than one LOL)Mulu wrote:Oh come on, everybody knows Jesus is in prison. That's where people keep finding him anyway....

Secular? Mostly, I suppose, in action anyway, to the extent he emphasized Nationalism over faith in god or a religion. Though he did basically try to create his own version of Christianity, after all. That's hardly atheist. Had he won, I'm sure there would be a Nazi Church of Christ.

So whenever anyone drags out the hoary old "without god, whats to stop people being evil" argument, you can ask them why the "god-fearing" outnumber the godless so much in a population that has, by definition, broken at least one of the 10 commandments.Grand Fromage wrote:That study's been done, actually. Seriously, this isn't to up my post count at all. But I work with a couple of christians. They scare me. I live in daily fear of the antics they might pull. I can't hold down a job or practice good hygene. They're becoming a serious problem. What we need to do is commit them all because of how insane they are. Me, I'm not insane! No sir!!! NO SIRR!!! What does this have to do with your post? Nothing but it's not to raise my post count at all.Mulu wrote:Oh come on, everybody knows Jesus is in prison. That's where people keep finding him anyway....
