Lonely Aussie seeks DM who keeps odd hours
Hi there, my name is Ritchie, and after popping up now and then on the OAS I've been accepted on the live servers.
ALFA is about the only persistent world I have ever played, with the exception of A Tale in the Desert about three years ago. Before that, nothing. I roleplayed PnP games back when I was a teenager, getting on for oh, twenty years ago. It will be nice to get back into it and not be completely baked during play.
By profession I'm an analyst/programmer, specialising in stats analysis tools for retail businesses (boy oh boy would I like to get my hands on the ALFA server logs. Oh, the magic I could work on those).
I've also started playing with the toolset, and I'm eager to contribute in any way I can to designing areas, writing dialogue and scripting (I've just started dabbling with nwscript, and I quite like it). I'll post in the relevant forum to make a formal offer of my services when I'm more familiar with the tools.
I've no ambitions to DM, ever. I did that back when I was in school. I had more than enough of it. Besides, I couldn't work the DM client with the skill of the DMs I've seen so far (HDB, FanaticusIncendi and Maxcell).
I'm an Australian, and my one big fear with ALFA is that I'll have no-one playing or DMing in any time period that I am free. I'm probably going to start with Sembia (it's the recommended server, after all), and my free times are, at a crude estimate, 10:00 to 12:00 GMT Monday to Friday, and 00:00 to 08:00 GMT Saturday and Sunday. This is not to say I'll be playing all that time, but I'll be available. My timezone is GMT+10.
On the weekends I can probably play any time of the day or night, given some advance warning. Don't make me beg...
I look forward to meeting every single one of you.

Actually you can still asume both scenarios.
Some servers like Cormanthor are still being built, and many other live servers are being edited.
Organisation and discussion for ALFA in NWN2 is well underway. Basically the first fase will be to create a base mod (mainly scripting work). If you'd like to help with that best to contact çípher, which leads the base mod team. Once the base mod is complete (a fase of 3 months after the release of NWN2) then the server teams shall start building their servers based of the base mod.
That's about the plan I think.

I wish you were from Perth
Where are you from? I notice that Sydney is GMT+11 right now because of Daylight Savings. If you're GMT+10 and I'm GMT-5, then your 20:00 is my 5 am, which is a bit early. GMT+11 is even worse. I'm usually up by my 6 am and I prefer to play on weekday mornings. Is anybody from Perth? One of my favorite people is from New Zealand but 3 am is way too early.
I'm interested in Aussie times because I'd like to DM on the OAS on my weekday mornings. When do other Aussies play?
There are places in ALFA that play at Aussie times. Since I'm likely to get confused I'll let the Aussies tell you about them.

Hey there! Congrats and welcome!
You might want to check out the Western Frontier for Aussie play times. There's an Aussie DM there and I have heard the server is really beautiful. Smaller amounts of people playing there right at the moment, but I happen to know a couple players there who are excellent RPers. Post a message in their forum to feel it out

I live in Melbourne, Ludo, which in the normal scheme of things is GMT+10 when daylight saving is not in effect. At this time of year daylight saving is usually over, however this year, because Melbourne is hosting the Commonwealth Games, daylight saving has been extended for a few weeks, so I'm currently GMT+11, putting me at the same time as Sydney. That ends this weekend, when the Games finish.
I'm not really sure when other Aussies play, I'll just have to search them out. I try to play in the evenings after work and on weekends.
I joined the Sembia server last night. Apparently one of the DMs there is an Aussie. I might drop him a PM.
If I'm really struggling to find people, I'll go to the Lead Admin with some ideas for attracting more antipodean players.

Northern Cormyr has at least one Aussie DM (Drankthar, Sydney) and 2 Aussie players (Bool, Sydney- and Swift, Adelade?), so that may be a possibility for you. It's also got some wacky GMT-8 Pacific time folks who tend to stay up late, so you may have some crossover with them.
Rotku is a kiwi DM, last I heard he was shifting over towards The Pirate Isles as a story DM, think he still maintains Shadowdale DM access as well.
Hope this is helpful, good luck in finding the good RP!

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate!!!!
Welcome to the land of sunshine and lollypops.
WE aussies are the minority but way back when it was pretty good. Just several DMs have stopped not to refresh before ALFA2.
Check this thread out...won't help you now but would love to see you come ALFA2.
