NWN2: XP caps discussion
Remove monster XP.
Add RP XP scripts
Fix RP XP scripts so they wont override other XP (just in case a DM forgets to slap them with a wand they dont lose any well-earned XP).
Let DMs award combat XP for their sessions
No real need for a cap, and if we have one it has to be at a larger interval that 200/day. Its too easy to break that in one session.

I see this as being more punitive to low level characters..Mid-High LvLs dont have to worry about getting to the next level for survival. They can just chug along at whatever pace they choose..And lets face it..The true PGers are not sitting around with Low level Pcs
Low levels run a high risk of dying at each encounter...Thats why they get better exp rewards for monsters.
Why dont the PGers get dealt with...This is complicated and not really cool..The RP script is like getting quest exp all the time..Thats just not right..If your sitting in the tavern you dont need exp points for doing that. DnD is about adventure..I know the RP Gurus dont agree with me but thats fine..You guys dont much care for exp anyways correct..Yes give exp for RP but let a DM do it..Just like your asking DMs to give exp for Combat..Youve done flipped the thing around..This might well make RPers the PGers of the future..
standardize exp based on CR and be done with it. Thats what the core rulebooks offer.

How many PG'er threads are there???
I'm not typing the same thing a third time tonight, just gonna say that OC is on the mark. And add that as a low-lvl expert, it's not fun to duck and dodge uber rats and silly thugs while trying to collect and scrape and rip out enough xp to get to a place where RP is actual 'play' and not 'survive'.
I've lost tons of toons in the short time I've been here in ALFA. Tons. Yes, soloing will do that to you... I know... but finding a DM ain't easy. Been two weeks since I had a quest, and not from lack of trying. I'm on every night. Hearing about uber-toons that need not worry about day-to-day survival getting thousands of xp from a quest is a bit disheartening to be honest. (I'm sure they deserve it, understand it completely.. still sucks when you're trying to RP your a*s off while ducking every damn critter you come across because you OOC know that it's going to kill you and force you to start over yet again.)
My problem isn't lack of canon or RP skill, (I don't think... ask those I've played with for a clearer view on that), and it surely isn't from a lack of participation... cause I honestly try like hell to get into quests. My problem is simply cold servers/not enough statics/anti-PG'er measures that make it impossible for a low lvl to get anywhere.
But hey, what ya gonna do?
Keep at it. All I can do... and hope that one of my toons makes it through.

I saw my first DM yesterday in 2 weeks (2 months if you count my holiday). Going 2 weeks without getting any XP at all can be quite boring and frustrating, to be honest.
To say that anyone who wants XP must be a powergamer is just plain stupid. Role Playing Games are about advancement of your characters through experience. If people want their characters to remain static (stagnant) they should be playing Adventure Games.

Agreed. Getting past lvl1 is hard in WD, re-creating every few days gets old quick. I know the system ain't perfect and I really think ALFA ingen is a great place to play, but it sucks finding cold servers and treading water lookin' for a way to enjoy yourself at low levels. Part and parcel though I imagine and I'm pretty sure everyone here went through the same. Probably much easier when the DM is your pal though...

*shrugs* I dunno... bedtime.
btw- great av Nick. Looks like a pic I have of me at 16 (hawaiian) during an aloha parade

Hmm we have a rp xp scrypt..why not put in a monster kill xp scrypt? Controlled by the dm's wouldnt that be a good medium to both sides of the argument?
Just something simple to keep track of how many kill's at what cr or el.
That way if 10th lvl wizard is killing off whole villages of half hit die kobolds from the bluff the dm can give him his 1xp for the kill's and 100xp for rping a powerhungry mass murderer.

Really? I certainly think a bard should get xp for socializing. And a cleric should for spreading his god's faith, a wizard for studying his spells, a fighter for talking about tactics or battles.Overfilled Cup wrote:I.If your sitting in the tavern you dont need exp points for doing that. There should be more ways then combat to gain xp and frankly for the people that don't see a dm more then once a week it shouldn't have to rely on just a dm.

Agreed. I logged on just the other night to RP out my PC practicing his combat moves. In truth I was hoping others of my kind could get a mini-RP session going but then Silvey's ISP decided to be a little B**** and cut out.
How should non-combat like that differ from "patroling" for spawns as far as gaining XP? IMO they should get a similar amount of rewards.
Enter XP Script
Equal rewards for equal skill practice.

Are you saying bards need to kill spawns in order to merit a reward?Stormseeker wrote:The only problem i have with vendrins bit is that you can study sheet music all you want but untill you start playing you have no skill at all.
And skill comes with doing the same thing over and over..not by studying how to do it. You may gain some knowledge but not the whole sheebang.

I also agree with you Vendrin and Stormseekers statement is correct. The solution lies somewhere in the middle there. RP is the reason why we play here in addition to the fun of adventure and DM led stuff is ubber entertainment. But to say a RP script is the answer opens up a can of worms.
Will some people be denied the wave of the wand because it was questionable all this time was spent actaully "Roleplaying" wil we have to record all our play to prove we are not abusing the XP script..? This isnt happening now but if it was ALFA wide it would come up Im certain. Thats what I mean about PGing the RP script. Is fishing considered a RP activity? Does that mean if were not directly studying magics, entertaining as a Bard or other such activities that we have to logg out to avioid being seen as abusing this script..?
These are some of the concerns I have.
