Vote for new ALFA theme

I think that the reason why the first option is liked is because it's basically the same as
what we have now. Similar color scheme and setup. It's all about familiarity really. I guess
that is the same reason why I chose alternative number two. I remember the old website,
and this reminds me of that one. Color-wise.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Uh... Can we please have a slighly lighter design? The ones suggested are durned heavy, a bit dwarven.
Using 3.x edition book covers is a bit strange... They are book covers and aren't really too suitable for frontpages on the web... You get drawn to the design, not the text around the page.
Suggestions:
Nothing beats a white-ish background for readability. In addition our eyes automatically seek lighter spots on the screen.
More graphics in the text, less borders.
The logo from #1 is by far the best, it is really catching. It could still do with a little polish, but I guess it is just an example. You can't go wrong with that one.
Stay away from red/brown - the colors are too heavy.
Looking at the front page today, I can see that you don't need three columns. Stay with two. If you want to keep the User statistics info put it in a box, not a whole column.

What precipitated this change (I think) is some feedback on our website recieved by a stranger to ALFA who observed that the meaning and content of the site were not at all clear. And I think he was right. A visitor who comes upon the website for the first time would indeed have a difficult time immediately discerning what ALFA is.Bool wrote:I was thinking the same thing.boombrakh wrote:I think that the reason why the first option is liked is because it's basically the same as what we have now.
Perhaps "Use Existing Website" may have been a viable Poll option?
(even if only to clearly seperate the two)

I actually like the blue and the brass/jeweled corner decorations which are reminiscent of the D&D core books better than the brown background. But in order for visitors to be immediately clued in to what the site is, the ALFA banner must be easily readable, and IMO it should say "A Neverwinter Nights Persistent World" right beneath the ALFA banner such that it is immediately visible and large enough to read, as in design number one (as opposed to being placed on a small brass decoration at the bottom of the page).
IMO, synthesize the banner of no. 1 with the blue backgorund with jeweled corners and you have a winner.
I doubt WotC would give us a hard time about using the blue background and corner jewel decorations, but one never knows. I was very surprised that they forbid us to display their maps.
If we do go with a design that resembles the core book covers, it might be kind of neat to use a table of contents and book page design for the other pages of the site, eh? (The LotR trilogy movies on DVD uses a similar design for navigating the DVD contents. Something like that.)

ok, I said white-ish, not all white. I also said I liked the logo from #1
You want white as a background where you want the attention, not all over the place.

Ok, the is mostly white, is easy to read and quite dull. With some light graphics, the logo from suggestion #1 and some colorful pictures I think it would work nicely.
Sorry I couldn't find any better examples or make one myself.. That would be working.

Reason I voted 1 is because that's the replication of the FRCS. The other ones are core rulebooks and thus have little or nothing directly to do with the campaign setting itself.
If you're gonna do something like this I suggest you start from the page design of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (and any sourcebook). They are light, match design number 1 and have a link to Forgotten Realms.

On the other hand you have different fingers.
