Golden Oak Riddle Contest

Post by Ladellon »

These were the riddles put forth for consideration by the Combustible Crook of Continuous Conundrums. (Answers are at the bottom in small print)

One
It increases and decreases
And no one sees it.
It is not fire
And yet it can be quenched.

Two
I have strong legs but walk not.
A strong back but work not
Two good arms but reach not
A seat but sit and tarry not.

Three
Light as a feather, there is nothing in it.
The strongest man can’t hold it
For much more than a minute.

Four
I go around in circles
But always straight ahead,
Never complain
No matter where I am led

Five
The man who invented it doesn’t want it.
The man who bought it doesn’t need it.
The man who needs it, doesn’t know it.

Six
The part of the bird
That’s not in the sky,
Who can swim in the ocean
And yet remain dry.

Seven
What is it that a young man can give a maiden
That he does not have,
That he cannot have,
That he has never had,
That he will never have,
And that he cannot give to a young man?
