The Ballad of Vana's Rescue

Post by Cleasor »

This ballad can be heard late in the evenings within the Beer Golem

They gathered within the Guild Hall
Debated the paths to take
None were easy; all were deadly
But in thirty six hours, Vana would be on a stake

The Plague Rats did capture her
Ransacked the Guild once more
Dragged her into the depths of the Docks
Sent back fingers wrapped in gore

The path to take was settled
Two groups would attempt the nab
One team would act as a diversion
Other would Vana they secretly grab

The team of stealth departed
Through the city streets they did make
As quiet as a mouse, as dark as a shadow
To the lair before the enemy wake

A key opened a locked door
Into the building they went
Knives were drawn, bows were strung
Wadding through garbage unkempt

The reek of the air was putrid
How they proceeded who knows?
Avoiding guards with blades cold and sharp
Cotton swabs stuffed up their nose

Down, down they crept
Searching for Vana a sign
Discovered guarded within a hall deep
Fear shivering down their spine

But lo! The golems and rats did run
Summoned by some outside clamor
Forsaken poor Vana now unguarded
Left to her weeping voice a stammer

A swift knife cut her loose
Within a chest recovered ransom
One spoke the incantation of teleport
Vana grabbed the man most handsome

And so remember my mates
When deeds appear too rugged
Teamwork will win the day
Over enemies most cold-blooded
"Having an adventure shows that someone is incompetent, that something has gone wrong. An adventure is interesting enough in retrospect, especially to the person who didn't have it; at the time it happens it usually constitutes an exceedingly disagreeable experience." Vilhjalmur Stefansson
