A Land Far Away

Do to some in game & out of game things, I've decided to put up some of what might be found inside the sketchbook carried by Horatio. Until recently, it is something that he mostly kept to himself, and never shared with others.

None of these would be labeled within the book, and no specific order is yet for them, for I have about two dozen more somewhere on my hard drives i'm looking for to complete the series.
*EDIT* - As per requested, I have added labels, but for OOC, not for inside the book.


Those who know her, will recognize her, but none will ever know what she thinks about when she is so pensive.


The soon to be Vaunted Knight, Caine Kross... finally wearing the dress Horatio brought her from far away land.

One of the oldest, a portrait drawn of a Sune worshiper, Brianna Arcalinte, before she left to continue her journey south from Nashkel.


A cute girl in uniform that caught Horatio's eye as he was on his way inside from a hard day in the fields.


The last knight in Silverymoon, before beginning the long journey home.

The harsh Priestess of Auril in Graystaad, and one should note, there was snow on the ground and more in the sky.


A rare day of peace and quiet at Veneshaul Keep, Tha'is in thought.


A day to remember, Wolf playing and Tha'is dancing, the crowd did never see anything so moving before.


A woman Horatio met in Baldur's Gate, had thought at first she were Deva, but was mistaken.


The woman who captivated Horatio's attention for the night, during his travels. He never did get her name.


Calil, on the Hunt. A very old page, one of the first things to shock him into drawing what he saw, for fear none would believe him.

Those are great sketches - awesome stuff. I demand labels though - I want to know who I am looking at!

Come back to BG so I can fix the two was doing of Aliyah and I'll label them. ((4 yr old corruption machine attacked and destroyed active work))

I will see what I can do, though it maybe a little while before I can get back. On the other hand, if you come to TSM, you'll probably find Aliyah in Rivermoot or Silverymoon.

A rather stunning girl, that turned to Horatio and smiled at him as he left the temple.

The same girl, just doing her duty to the temple, guarding the entrance.


The Music Teacher and merchant of instruments in the market, central to Baldur's Gate.


Pherinao, a woman who does not often give her name, but instead will let you call her anything you want, for a price.

The next three are all Syrista, the dancer at the Helm, a constant entertainment, with good spirit and plenty of assets.

Did a few new ones, and managed to salvage something of the one double page I was working that my son destroyed, that was yours Mikayla, Aliyah is the first two... the first was from at the Tavern where she was meeting with friends and was seen from the corner, the second seen from the bar, when she was approached so icly could get better look at her eyes. because I am posting, will edit through and give idea of who they are. It was a fair request.

A new muse appeared at the bar, but Horatio too drunk to get up, and she leaves before he finishes more than her face.

The muse is named Aliyah, lucky that she returned again the next night.

Horatio would never tell about this one.

How do you do these sketches? Freehand from screenshots? Tracings? I am curious - they are really good.

I have nerve damage and tendon damage in my dominant hand. Even so, I was a sculptor and photographer, never any good at drawing.
What I have done is in essence combined several different thoughts. Take a good photo /screen shot, which takes a good eye as anyone who does them will note. Crop down to what you want to use, and edit with various software to get rid of things you don't want.

Then, using free software called Picasa, http://picasa.google.com/ I filter them a number of times to bring out more or less brightness, adding effects etc, and then filter to a pencil sketch, and then re-save after altering the background color and pencil colors to match closer what I expect old paper and charcoals would produce instead of super bleach white and black graphite.

So in essence, I'm sculpting digitally from an in game photograph.

That is pretty awesome. Sounds like a lot of work though - I don't think I will be doing a sketch-book anytime soon, but I am glad you are doing it.

The Calishite Crew, Horatio draws on the left page, then the last member he knows on the right.


Horatio was made to promise to draw her as she was, and not as she is not. Afterwords, he spent much of the evening after she left drawing this on the bar, as he drank.

Nicely done gonz0. The real question though, is this: while Horatio was drawing Aliyah at the bar ... was he wearing the outfit? Inquiring minds want to know ...

He was wearing the fine silk clothes he had purchased for himself when he went shopping. Trying to not look like a peasant. Though what's hard to know, is what did he have on under them?

Oh I remember Horatio lying around dead in sewers, a leaving for beefcake half orcs... but now in silks, la de dah.

Neat way of making the artsy stuff for the library, keep it up.
